Following recent resignations by Grace Farmer and Jerry Buchanan (Sooner Politics story here), the First District Committee for the Republican Party met May 22nd in Tulsa to hold a special election for a new chair and vice chair. There were 16 voting members (one a proxy) present. After two rounds of tied voting and a brief question and answer period, Amanda Teegarden was selected as chair in a 10-6 vote. Voting was by secret ballot.
Joanne Tyree was the only announced candidate for Vice Chair and was elected by acclamation. Other candidates for chair were Bo Summers (withdrew after first vote and gave his support to Amanda Teegarden) and Jon McGrath. Neither Summers or McGrath or Tyree are members of the committee, but one does not have to be a member of the committee to be selected as chair or vice chair.
Congratulations to Amanda Teegarden and Joanne Tyree!
To answer the call to serve as a watchmen on the wall, I have been a grassroots activist for a long time almost fifty years now (and yes I started young!). Philosophically I am a conservative, limited government freedom lover and a co-founder of R3publicans in 2008. I currently live in Oklahoma and serve as Communications Director for OKGrassroots and Constitutional Liberty Coalition but I cut my teeth on politics with Associated Conservatives of Texas and the Traveling Liberty Bell. Thank you for all you do for life and liberty too! Finding Gems & Sharing Them R3publicans OKGrassroots Constitutional Liberty Coalition
