US Turns Blind Eye on Real National Security Threats

With all the hue and cry raised about the threats to US national security coming from the Islamic State, Syria, Iran, North Korea, China, the «assertive Russia» and many others, the real threats are largely kept out of public discourse. At least, they are not on the priority list where they should be.

One of them had been kept out of spotlight until coming to prominence on April 18 – the day President Trump singled out MS-13 – a street gang with Central American roots – as «one of the gravest threats to American safety». The president signed an executive order calling for the Department of Justice to convene a task force to go after transnational criminal organizations like MS-13.

Forget the Trumanite mythology

As to who did in reality fire that shot, Bruce Cumings, head of the history department at the University of Chicago, gave us the definitive answer in his two-volume The Origins of the Korean War, and The Korean War: A History: the Korean war started during the American occupation of the South, and it was Rhee, with help from his American sponsors, who initiated a series of attacks that well preceded the North Korean offensive of 1950. From 1945-1948, American forces aided Rhee in a killing spree that claimed tens of thousands of victims: the counterinsurgency campaign took a high toll in Kwangju, and on the island of Cheju-do – where as many as 60,000 people were murdered by Rhee’s US-backed forces.

Coddingtons Corner: Trump’s Massive War Power Giveaway

Trump’s Massive War Power Giveaway

The U.S. military under Trump is quickly morphing into judge, jury and executioner of any enemy they see fit and are, as recent events suggest, free to attack them in anyway they choose.

Last year, as Trump’s front-runner status in the Republican primaries began to truly unnerve the conservative establishment, several figures emerged as possible “fail-safes” to the increasing inevitability of a Trump-Clinton showdown. One of these figures was former four-star general James Mattis, now Secretary of Defense, who was courted by “an anonymous group of conservative billionaires,” as well as former aides of the Bush family. According to the Daily Beast, the billionaires numbered nearly a dozen and were comprised of “influential donors” and “politically-involved billionaires with deep pockets and conservative leanings.”

Coddingtons Corner: Jared Kushner — A Suspected Gangster Within the Trump White House

WAYNE MADSEN | 17.04.2017 |
Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner has emerged as a significant influence within the policy-making apparatus of the White House. After a rather public imbroglio with Trump’s strategic policy adviser Stephen Bannon over the U.S. cruise missile attack on the Shayrat airbase in Syria, Kushner is «in», as they often say in Washington, and Bannon is «out». In any case, the anti-globalist faction, which is led by Bannon, has received verbal «thumbs down» on several fronts from Trump.

Coddingtons Corner: Trump’s not the new Hitler… he’s the new Kaiser Bill

Germany’s Great War leader was a blustering, reckless gambler who took the world over the abyss. Sound familiar?

All politicians wear masks. Donald Trump’s favourite is that of Maximum Leader. It was on display during this past week. ‘If China is not going to solve North Korea, we will,’ he said at the weekend, ahead of his meeting with Xi Jinping — a throwaway comment that could end up causing mayhem in the Far East. Next, his reaction to news of a chemical bombing in Syria. Trump blamed the atrocity on his predecessor’s ‘weakness and irresolution’, suggesting that he is keen to show the world what strength and resolve look like. The President, it seems, is not too dissimilar to the nightmare his political enemies warned us about: a nuclear-armed hothead itching to show the world how tough he is.

Ann Coulter: Lassie, Come Home

by ANN COULTER 12 Apr 2017

War is like crack for presidents. It confers instant gravitas, catapulting them to respectability, bypassing all station stops. They get to make macho pronouncements on a topic where every utterance is seen as august.

On the other hand, Trump’s Syrian misadventure is immoral, violates every promise he ran on, and could sink his presidency.
