Gold Down, What Now?

"Generally, after a stark price correction like this, you will tend to see a prompt rally, followed by another bout of weakness, testing the prior bottom. This should play out over the next few weeks, which will pave the way for an excellent entry or re-entry point to stock up on gold. It is important to note that, in my view, you can wait and watch gold calmly. There is no need to rush (back) in. Gold negativity is very high and it will take time to pick up momentum. But you should certainly not wait too long. Fundamentally, all of the reasons that made gold an ever more attractive asset over the past years are still fully in place, and increasingly so." Gold’s Black Market?

"Have investors really lost faith? We read that gold demand in Asia and India remains very strong and informal reports from gold buyers (for physical gold) seem to indicate that it is difficult to buy gold at any price. Silver, not much better. One explanation for this would be that the paper market and the physical market are diverging. The paper market, according to those who see this crash as manipulated, is easy to push down. The physical market might reject these manipulations were it a mark-to-market operation. But it is not. The physical price of gold is apparently fixed twice a day by a consortium of wise men." Continue reading

Central Bankers Admit They Are Flying Blind

"Growing concern at the International Monetary Fund over the long-term side-effects of interest rates close to zero came as some of the leading figures in central banking conceded they were flying blind when steering their economies. It is troubling for monetary policy experts that their crisis-fighting tools - rates stuck at zero, money printing operations to bring down longer-term interest rates and encourage private sector spending, and efforts to calm financial market fears - might have nasty side-effects. The central bankers were clear that they had got it wrong before the crisis, lulled into thinking they had eliminated financial vulnerabilities." Continue reading

"An eighth grade student from West Virginia has been arrested, suspended and faces charges for wearing an NRA T-shirt with the image of a firearm and the words 'Protect Your Right' printed on it to school. 'I never thought it would go this far because honestly I don’t see a problem with this. There shouldn’t be a problem with this,' Marcum told WOWK-TV. Police confirmed that Marcum had been arrested and faced charges of obstruction and disturbing the education process after getting into an argument over the shirt with a teacher at Logan Middle School, which is south of Charleston." David Galland: The True Import of the Boston Bombings

"Unfortunately, what has been seriously injured – once again – is American freedom, as authorities begin unwrapping all the new homeland security powers constructed since 9/11. Just as it is impossible to predict the price of gold tomorrow, it is impossible to gauge how the government will respond, or how much collateral damage will be done. Who could have predicted, after 9/11 – an act committed by Saudis and Pakistanis – that the US would attack Iraq? What appears clear, at least to me, is that the very nature of terrorism and the invariable reaction of the nation-state being attacked set the stage for bad, bad days for liberty." Continue reading

The Boston Bombers and the FBI Connection

"'My son would never do this. It is a set-up,' the woman continued in her interview with RT. 'He was controlled by FBI for like, three, five years. They knew what my son was doing. They knew what actions and what sites on the Internet he was going. He used to come home, they used to come and talk to me. They used to tell me that, you know, that they are controlling his – they were telling me that he’s really a serious leader and they’re afraid of him. They said, they told me that whatever he is, whatever country decides, whatever is there, whatever information he’s getting, they are controlling him, so how could this happen?'" Continue reading

John Kerry says North Korea conditions for talks ‘unacceptable’

"US Secretary of State John Kerry Thursday dismissed a set of pre-conditions laid out by North Korea for talks as 'unacceptable,' calling them an opening 'gambit' from Pyongyang. The isolated North on Thursday responded for the first time to an offer from Kerry during his weekend visit to the Korean peninsula to return to the negotiating table in a bid to defuse heightened nuclear tensions. The demands by the North’s main military body included the withdrawal of UN sanctions and a permanent end to South Korea-US joint military drills." Continue reading

Iraq executes 21 men in one day on ‘terror’ charges

"Iraq put 21 men to death on Tuesday, a senior justice ministry official told AFP, the latest in a series of mass executions that have drawn international condemnation. All of the men were Iraqis and had been convicted on anti-terror charges, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The latest executions brought to 50 the number of times Baghdad has carried out the death penalty so far this year, despite widespread calls for a moratorium on the country’s use of capital punishment. Justice Minister Hassan al-Shammari insisted last month that Baghdad would continue to implement the death penalty." Continue reading

Baghdad cafe bombing kills 27 ahead of elections

"The bombing comes ahead of provincial elections on Saturday in which an estimated 13.8 million Iraqis are eligible to vote for more than 8,000 candidates, with 378 seats being contested. Diplomats have raised questions over the credibility of the vote, however, as a spike in violence has left at least 14 candidates dead and a third of the country’s provinces are not even taking part, including two where authorities say security cannot be guaranteed. Thursday’s bombing struck at 10:00 pm (1900 GMT) in the mostly-Sunni Amriyah neighbourhood and also wounded more than 50 people, security and medical officials said." Continue reading

Kerry blames Iran for attack on Iraq camp

"US Secretary of State John Kerry blamed the Iranian government for a deadly attack on an opposition camp in Iraq, and voiced fears of another assault. 'We are deeply engaged in this. I am very concerned about the potential of another attack,' Kerry told US lawmakers when asked about the February attack on a camp housing members of an exiled Iranian dissident group, the MEK. The People’s Mujahedeen of Iran (MEK) has accused Tehran of being behind the rocket and mortar attack on Camp Liberty, a former US military base near Baghdad housing about 3,000 members of the MEK, in which seven people died."
