Health Insurance Premiums Continue To Rise Under Obamacare

"Yesterday the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a report that claims to highlight how Obamacare is working for Americans—but in reality, it actually shows how the law has fallen short of candidate Obama’s promises. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then one chart in the report tells the tale. Figure 3 of the HHS report (below) highlights what happened when insurers requested to increase premiums by more than 10 percent—triggering a new rate review process established under Obamacare. While some of these premium increases were modified or withdrawn, nearly three in five (57.8 percent) were approved 'unmodified' by regulators." Continue reading →

And you can thank the Obama health law. Doctors and hospitals who don’t comply with the federal government’s electronic-health-records requirements forgo incentive payments now; starting in 2015, they’ll face financial penalties from Medicare and Medicaid. They’re 'polling all Colorado legislators to gauge their support for repealing the very gun laws at the heart of the recalls.' The tone of the questionnaire these folks are sending politicians is especially heartening: polite but insistent, courteous but commanding. Americans in Canada may be unable to receive payments from Government

"Looks like the Government of Canada will require a bank account for all government cheques. Therefore. anybody who is: 1. Suspected of being a U.S. person; and 2. Who becomes 'FATCA Recalcitrant' and has his/her account closed, will be unable to receive payments from the Government of Canada. It’s important to note that at the present time, any person, on showing the appropriate ID can get a Government of Canada cheque cashed at any bank. "It must not be fun having to explain to people that their private financial and medical information will now be in the hands of some of the least competent people in America. Or imagine what it must be like when some of your biggest allies start complaining about the law. Such as union bosses. Or government bureaucrats. And what about stories about cost overruns. And how about all the bad news about limited choice in the infamous Obamacare exchanges. Or rising insurance costs. Our privacy will be compromised, our choices will be limited, our costs will increase, and the government will squander more of our money. Boston bomb victims who cash survivor checks lose state health insurance

"Months after the Boston Marathon bombing, J.P. Norden is still recovering from losing his leg, but he can’t cash a $1.2 million check provided to survivors because he would lose his state health insurance for the poor. Norden, and his brother Paul, both had legs amputated and received identical checks as part of the $60 million being distributed by One Fund charity. They told The Washington Post that they are very aware they would quickly use up the $1.2 million with their ongoing medical expenses." Continue reading →

Government tax advisor quits after tape reveals him giving tips on avoidance

"A tax advisor to the British government was forced to resign after he was secretly filmed giving advice on how to avoid paying tax, officials said on Saturday. David Heaton was recorded by undercover BBC reporters at a London conference explaining to companies how to keep their money out of finance minister George Osborne’s 'grubby mitts'. Two months later, he started work on a panel advising the revenue ministry, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), on how to tackle abuse of the tax rules, according to the BBC.
