“Anti-Government” Couple on Run With Children; Lost Custody After Pot Charge

"Joshua Michael Hakken and his wife Sharyn Hakken are on the run in Florida after kidnapping their own two children from Sharyn's mother this morning. Patricia Hauser has had legal custody of her grandchildren, four-year-old Cole and two-year-old Chase, since 2012, when Joshua and Sharyn lost custody for displaying pot in front of their sons at an 'anti-government rally' in Louisiana. There aren't a lot of details out there right now, so it's possible that the Hakkens really were a danger to their kids. But it will be just so goddamn awful if all of this is the result of them using some marijuana at a rally in front of their kids." Continue reading →

Kindergartener Suspended Over Mohawk Hairstyle

"A kindergartner with a new, spiked Mohawk haircut was sent home from a local elementary school this week for violating the district's dress code. Keshia Castle said she was told on Wednesday that her 5-year-old son, Ethan Clos, cannot not to come back to Reid Elementary School until he gets rid of his Mohawk, a haircut in which the head is shaved on the sides and only a strip of hair is left on top and down the middle of the scalp. "At first glance it looks like a bad rap video — a phalanx of officers walking through a neighborhood, residents yelling taunts and obscenities, while Ice-T’s 'F— the Police' is pumping out of a stereo at full volume. It shows the Manatee County Sheriff’s gang unit snapping pictures of residents with their cellphones — sometimes inches from their faces. It also shows two arrests. '“The video shows the officers standing with scowls, flexing their muscles in front of one group of eight or nine friends, who are standing on their own property,' Britt said. "Although the mechanics of fractional-reserve banking have not changed in 300 years the public’s expectations have evidently changed greatly. Today banks are expected to lend ever more generously while depositors are supposed to not incur any risk of loss at all. State deposit 'insurance' is not insurance. Insurance companies calculate and calibrate risks, charge the insured party and set aside capital for when the insured event occurs.
