States Can Stop Proposed Federal Gun Control Measures in Their Tracks

According to a recent Fox News report, it appears increasingly likely Congress will have enough bipartisan support to push through “common sense” federal gun control legislation in 2018. If this happens, state action can effectively nullify these federal gun laws and render them ineffectual. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) have crafted legislation…

No, the Supreme Court is not always Right

It is often suggested that as soon as the Supreme Court weighs in on a particular issue, it can no longer be revisited and whatever opinion is rendered must be treated as an eternally binding edict. If one adopts to this position, they must then accept the following: that free blacks are not citizens and…

Pennsylvania Cops Raid Elderly Couple for Marijuana Plants That Weren’t

"Edward Cramer returned home in the midst of the raid, only to be met by leveled police guns, removed from his car, arrested, and placed in the police car with his wife for the next two hours. "Each Worth County High School student will receive between $1,000 and $6,000, but students who attorneys say suffered more invasive violations will receive higher amounts. Congress poised to jam through reauthorization of mass surveillance

"The current authorization for Section 702 expires on December 31, and it’s the first time Congress has faced this reauthorization since Edward Snowden’s earth-shattering disclosures about the National Security Agency’s mass surveillance apparatus. Committees in the Senate and House have competing proposals to reauthorize the program. But with the clock running out, Congress once again appears to be poised to jam through reauthorization."

In Baltimore, Residents Support Martial Law

"Neighborhoods are rotting away as the local economy crumbles giving way to a surge in homicides. Baltimore is on track for the worse year ever with a homicide rate the highest in the United States. Baltimore is home to about 615,000 people, but the city has more homicides than New York or Los Angeles, both of which have far larger populations. Earlier this year, Mayor Catherine Pugh called in the Federal Government in hopes to restore order. She was even quoted, 'violence in the city is out of control'…"

In North Korea, Black Markets Are Saving Lives

"Initially, these markets consisted of disorganized traders meeting in fields, facing seizure from police if they did not come up with a bribe. Today, the jangmadang practice has led to fully-fledged markets, complete with stalls selling street food, smuggled electronics, ingredients, and clothes; certain markets allegedly grew to encompass upwards of a thousand stalls. Today, the markets remain a crucial element of survival for many North Koreans, with some reports estimating that around 5 million (around a fifth of the overall population) are 'directly or indirectly dependent on the markets'."

US, S. Korea to stage massive air exercise in show of force against N. Korea

"The massive five-day annual exercise comes as Washington pushes what President Donald Trump has called a 'maximum pressure campaign' against Pyongyang over its nuclear programme. The exercise, named Vigilant Ace, starts on December 4 with 12,000 US personnel and an unspecified number of South Korean airmen flying more than 230 aircraft at eight US and South Korean military bases."

Ron Paul: Why Designate North Korea a ‘State Sponsor of Terrorism’?

"As bad as the North Korean government is, it is does not go abroad looking for countries to invade. The designation is a political one, allowing Washington to ramp up more aggression against North Korea. What is terrorism? Maybe we should ask a Yemeni child constantly wondering when the next Saudi bomb overhead might kill his family. Or perhaps we might even ask a Pakistani, Somali, Iraqi, Syrian, or other child who is terrified that the next US bomb will do the same to his family. Perhaps we need to look at whether US foreign policy actually reflects the American values we claim to be exporting before we point out the flaws in others."
