Funny thing, they probably have no clue why anyone would want to leave
For years California conservatives have been warning the state’s Democrats and liberal Republicans that the damage they were doing to business would soon cause a mass exodus elsewhere.
Now even CNN notices the rumbling hooves headed to other states;
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Buffeted by high taxes, strict regulations and uncertain state budgets, a growing number of California companies are seeking friendlier business environments outside of the Golden State.
Naturally, Governors like Rick Perry of Texas aren’t waiting around for these businesses to make up their minds; he’s been actively courting businesses to jump ship, causing cities like Vernon, California no small amount of angst and anger in radio ads aiming to tell Texas “Don’t Mess with Our Jobs”, as if having a better climate for people to do business was something Texas should be blamed for, rather than emulated.
And California’s Democrat legislators lash out at Texas, instead of considering making their state friendlier to business;
Officials in California reacted sharply to Texas’ effort. A spokesman for state Treasurer Bill Lockyer called Texas’ job hunting effort in California “bogus.” According to the L. A. Times, the official said: “Texas has had about as much success capturing California jobs as Elmer Fudd did when he hunted Bugs Bunny. And the governor won’t have any better luck preying on Vernon.”
See, California businesses are “prey” to the apparently evil Texas. How dare Texas create a climate friendly to business, while California under Democrat rule does exactly the opposite? The gall!
California goes way beyond merely being a “Liberal” state, it’s ruled by hard-core ideological leftists who care not a whit whether people actually work for a living unless somehow the fruits of the people’s labor somehow enrich Democrats. As in; belong to a union who “pays to play”, or who needs you?
Well, the people of California elected these Democrats, and now get to reap what they’ve sown. Californians rejected a proposition that would temporarily roll back the job killing “California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006“; they’ve voted in an endless string of propositions that lock in mandatory non-discretional spending on a multitude of projects and causes; and at the same time, they’ve rejected every permanent tax increase that’s come down the line.
Californians want it all and don’t want to have to pay more for it.
It’s not like they didn’t have any warning the stampede of fleeing businesses was coming. Joseph Vranich, the Business Relocation Coach, has been warning California for years this was coming. In fact, he was quoted in the CNN article linked above from this post, where he says no one even knows for sure exactly how many jobs have fled the state [my emphasis];
Our losses are occurring at an accelerated rate. Also, no one knows the real level of activity because smaller companies are not required to file layoff notices with the state. A conservative estimate is that only 1 out of 5 company departures becomes public knowledge, which means California may suffer more than 1,000 disinvestment events this year. The capital directed to out-of-state or out-of-country, while difficult to calculate, is nonetheless in the billions of dollars.The top five destinations are (1) Texas, (2) Arizona, (3) Colorado, (4) Nevada and Utah tied; and (5) Virginia and North Carolina tied.Based on the legislature’s recent rejection of business-friendly legislation and Sacramento’s implementation of additional regulations, signs are that California’s hostility towards business will only worsen.
Now the rub for the rest of the country; President Obama, along with his ideological cronies, are trying to do the same thing nationally.
Where will businesses flee if he’s successful? And, if Obama and the Democrats are successful, where will our jobs be?
Sigh…
I’m too damn old to learn Chinese.
