The 1 Up Fever

"In the Berlin city everyone is going crazy for a viral new app. Anyone with a smartphone can play a sort of Super Mario Bros arcade game in Augmented Reality. In the game a coin corresponds to 0.01 Bitcoins. Citizens' habits are tainted by the game. Coins are hidden all over the city, you can spot them just scanning around with your device, not always they are easy to grab. People started to leave their jobs in order to collect Coins in the streets. All over the city people are jumping and running around with their smartphones, trying to grab as many virtual coins as they can..." Continue reading

A New Batch of One-Liners Provides more Evidence of Jay Leno’s Inner Libertarianism

"I’ve already speculated that Jay Leno is a closet libertarian. If nothing else, the latest batch of jokes, courtesy of News-max, shows that he’s willing to go after Obama. Which is more than can be said for some of his competitors. As you can imagine, the joke about Obamacare and the deficit resonated with me. And the joke about taxing marijuana reminds me of what I wrote about the downside to legalization." Continue reading

Detroit Declares Bankruptcy; Citizen Layoffs Begin

After decades of mismanagement, decay, and taxpayer flight led to one of the largest municipal bankruptcies in U.S. history Friday, city officials have begun circulating notices informing citizens that their continued residence would no longer be required. "The city services they consume cost far in excess of what they can afford. The sooner we complete this restructuring, which will unfortunately require a significant reduction in headcount, the sooner we will be back on track as a city." Continue reading

Colbert: If poor people want food stamps, they should become massive corporations

"'The Farm Bill is a routine piece of legislation that provides subsidies for farmers while setting aside money for food stamps. It’s a win-win, help for the folks who grow the corn and help for folks who live on nothing but corn syrup.' 'But, last week, House Republicans agreed to an historic compromise on food stamps,' said Colbert, 'by eliminating the food stamps.' 'It is a principled conservative message based on the old adage, ‘Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Take away his food stamps, and he’ll found FishCo, a multinational food conglomerate that gets a massive subsidy in the next Farm Bill.’'" Continue reading

Clapper On Clapper Off

"James Clapper from the National Security Agency (NSA) lied to Congress and the American people when he testified before Congress that the NSA doesn't spy on millions of American citizens. As a result of the actions of whistleblower Ed Snowden, we know now that the NSA does indeed illegally and unconstitutionally spy on millions of American citizens." Continue reading

A Message From Your Friendly ECHELON/Total Awareness/Boundless Informant Surveillance System

"J.Q., you don't know me but I know you. I am your friendly ECHELON/Total Awareness/Boundless Informant Surveillance System--actually, an automated response feature of the system. You may wonder why you are receiving this email, and you may attribute it to the email you sent an associate stating that the theater play you attended 'bombed.' Since enemies of America use code phrases rather than overt words like 'bombed,' that email was noted but not considered actionable. I'm not authorized to reveal what did attract my attention about your communications." Continue reading
