Minnesota Bill Would Expand Sales Tax Exemption on Gold and Silver; Take Another Step Toward Treating Them as Money

A bill introduced in the Minnesota House would expand the sales tax exemption on gold and silver to include bullion coins. Mississippi Bill Would Ban Warrantless Stingray Surveillance in Most Situations

The legislation would help block the use of cell-site simulators, commonly known as “stingrays.” These devices essentially spoof cell phone towers, tricking any device within range into connecting to the stingray instead of the tower, allowing law enforcement to sweep up communications content, as well as locate and track the person in possession of a specific phone or electronic device.

New York Bill Would Restrict Cooperation with Most Federal Immigration Enforcement

S257 would restrict state and local police from investigating individuals on the basis of their immigration status. Nebraska Bill Would Ban State Enforcement of Federal Gun Control

Titled the “Second Amendment Preservation Act,” the bill would prohibit state agencies and law enforcement officers from enforcing a federal statute, order, rule, or regulation purporting to regulate a firearm, a firearm accessory, or firearm ammunition that “does not exist under the laws of this state,” except to comply with an order of a court.
