Signed as Law: California Provides Some Tax Relief for Marijuana Growers

The state currently levies a flat-rate cultivation tax of $10.08 per dry-weight ounce of cannabis flower and $3 per dry-weight ounce for leaves. There is also a 15 percent excise tax levied at the retail level. The new law eliminates the cultivation tax.

Today in History: Vermont Abolishes Adult Slavery

the Vermont constitution ended adult slavery in the state, declaring that "all persons are born equally free and independent, and have certain natural, inherent, and unalienable rights, amongst which are the enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing and protecting property, and pursuing and obtaining happiness and safety."

Feds Accessing Location Data from Millions of People Through Private Brokers

According to a recent report by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), data brokers harvest location data from mobile apps and then sell it to government agencies including state and local law enforcement, ICE, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense.

Supreme Court Effectively Grants Absolute Immunity to Federal Cops

With these recent SCOTUS decisions (or non-decisions) the Court has now created nearly impenetrable absolute immunity for federal agents. It's probably only a matter of time before we see similar immunity afforded state and local cops.
