Forgotten Foundation: Virginia Declaration of Rights

Approved unanimously on June 12, 1776, the Virginia Declaration of Rights, drafted primarily by George Mason, is one of the most important founding documents that many people have never even heard of. It influenced the text of the Declaration of Independence as well as the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Ohio Permitless Carry Law Now in Effect

Under the law, adults 21 and over who can legally possess a handgun in the state of Ohio can carry a concealed firearm without a state-issued permit. The legislation retains the current permitting process for those who wish to obtain a license in order to carry concealed in other states with CCDW reciprocity with Ohio.

Who is to Blame for the Latest Federal Gun Control?

Most people have a short memory, keep things partisan, or are completely ignorant of the history of federal gun control. None of these are acceptable ways to deal with the dangers we face. As Samuel Adams warned, “if we suffer tamely as lawless attack on our liberty, we encourage it, and involve others in our doom!”

Thomas Jefferson: A Little Rebellion Now and Then

Writing to James Madison about Shays’ Rebellion in early 1787, Thomas Jefferson said that “a little rebellion now and then is a good thing.” He considered it an essential check on government power - a warning that violations of the constitution and liberty might lead to serious trouble for rulers.

North Carolina Senate Passes Bill to Legalize Medical Marijuana Despite Federal Prohibition

Under the proposed law, patients would be able to access cannabis on a physician’s recommendation if they suffer from a “debilitating medical condition” such as cancer, epilepsy, HIV/AIDS, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and post-traumatic stress disorder. Patients could legally possess up to 1.5 ounces of marijuana. S711 would also create a regulatory and tax framework for the cultivation and sale of medicinal cannabis. Home cultivation would not be permitted under the law.
