Texas Bills Would Create State Process to End Police Qualified Immunity

The bill would create a cause of action in state courts to sue a police officer, "for any appropriate relief, including legal or equitable relief, against a peace officer who, under the color of law, deprived the person of or caused the person to be deprived of a right, privilege, or immunity secured by the Texas Constitution."

New York Bill Would Ban Warrantless Drone Surveillance

The legislation would require a search warrant prior to the use of drones for any law enforcement purposes in most situations. It would also require police to get a search warrant before obtaining any data or information collected by a privately operated drone. Under the law, police would be able to use a drone without a warrant for search and rescue operations and to survey conditions in dangerous areas after a natural disaster.

Tennessee Bills Would Create State Process to End Police Qualified Immunity

The legislation would create a cause of action in state courts to sue a police officer who “under color of law, subjects or causes to be subjected, including failing to intervene, as required in § 38-8-129, another person to the deprivation of an individual right secured by the Tennessee Constitution.”

Virginia Senate Passes Bill to Establish Retail Marijuana Sales Despite Federal Prohibition

The legislation would establish a framework for the creation of a retail marijuana market in Virginia administered by the Virginia Cannabis Control Authority. Under the proposed law, retail marijuana sales would begin on Jan. 1, 2024. This is all illegal under current federal law.

Florida House Subcommittee Passes Bill to Allow Permitless Concealed Carry in the State

Under the proposed law, persons over 21 would be able to carry a firearm without a permit in Florida. The state would maintain its concealed carry licensing process for those who wish to get a permit in order to carry in other states that maintain CCDW reciprocity with Florida.

Tennessee Bill Would Make Gold and Silver Legal Tender in the State

A bill filed in the Tennessee House would make gold and silver legal tender in the state. Passage into law would eliminate a big barrier to using gold and silver in everyday transactions, a foundational step for the people to undermine the Federal Reserve’s monopoly on money.

Wisconsin Bill Would Take Step Toward Treating Gold and Silver as Money

The legislation would create a sales and use tax exemption for precious metal bullion. The bill defines “precious metal bullion” as coins, bars, rounds, or sheets that contain at least 35 percent gold, silver, copper, platinum, or palladium.
