Another Ohio Town Decriminalizes Marijuana Despite Federal Prohibition

While a small town decriminalizing cannabis may not sound significant, it is part of a larger movement in Ohio. More than three dozen Ohio localities have enacted decriminalization through local ballot measures over the last few years. The "Second Amendment Preservation Act" would ban state and local law enforcement officers from enforcing any past, present, or future federal “acts, laws, executive orders, administrative orders, rules, regulations, statutes, or ordinances” that infringe on the right to keep and bear arms.

Five Ohio Localities Vote to Decriminalize Marijuana Despite Federal Cannabis Prohibition

Marijuana decriminalization measures passed in the Villages of Corning,, Laurelville, Rushville and Sawnee and the city of Kent. Generally, the ordinances decriminalize the possession of up to 200 grams of marijuana. Instead of making arrests or issuing citations, police are directed to confiscate the cannabis.

Ohio Permitless Carry Law Now in Effect

Under the law, adults 21 and over who can legally possess a handgun in the state of Ohio can carry a concealed firearm without a state-issued permit. The legislation retains the current permitting process for those who wish to obtain a license in order to carry concealed in other states with CCDW reciprocity with Ohio.

Ohio Bill Would Legalize Adult-Use Marijuana Despite Federal Prohibition

Under the proposed law, adults 21 and over could possess up to five ounces of marijuana and grow up to 12 plants for personal use. The legislation would also create a regulatory framework directed by the Ohio Department of Commerce for the commercial cultivation and retail sale of marijuana.
