Now in Effect: Texas Law Sets Foundation to Nullify Federal Restrictions on Suppressors

The law repeals Texas code criminalizing owning a firearm “silencer,” more accurately referred to as a sound “suppressor” - outside of Federal regulations. It also bans the state from enforcing any federal restrictions on suppressors that don't exist under the laws of the state.

Signed as Law: New Jersey Bans State and Local Participation in Immigration Detention

In practice, the law prohibits any state or local government agency from entering into, renewing, or extending a contract, agreement, intergovernmental service agreement, or memorandum of understanding that authorizes a state or local government agency, or a private correctional detention facility to house or detain individuals for federal civil immigration violations.

Now in Effect: South Carolina Legalizes Open Carry for CCDW Permit Holders

Today, a law went into effect allowing all South Carolina concealed weapon permit holders to open carry firearms. The law also includes provisions to review and prohibit state enforcement of federal laws that limit carrying firearms.

Signed as Law: Illinois Limits State and Local Cooperation With Federal Immigration Enforcement

The new law expands the Illinois Trust Act passed in 2017 prohibiting state and local police from holding a person solely on the basis of a federal immigration detainer. SB667 expands the law to prohibit law enforcement officers from inquiring about or investigating the citizenship, immigration status, or place of birth of any individual in custody, or who has otherwise been stopped or detained.
