Quit backing losers and squishes or get out of the way

Doubt he will, as Erick Erickson writes, Crist blew that wad already;

Charlie Crist will not only run as an independent in Florida, but he has also reserved all of his air time in Florida through November, or as much as he can.

Why?

Because he knows the Club for Growth is going to do what they did to Specter — fund an effort to have Crist donors ask for their money back. Well, because Crist has spent it all on television advertising holds that he may or may not later use, he can say he has none to give back.

Classy, Charlie.

Erick has more on the train wreck that has become the NRSC and it’s a must read, but meanwhile RNC Chair Michael Steele has taken a swing at Crist’s bid as an independent on CNN’s Situation Room;

“There will be no Senator Crist,” Steele declared during an interview on CNN’s “Situation Room.”

“We want to keep that seat in the Republican column and we’re looking forward to going forward with the nominee,” the RNC chairman continued. “And if Crist is not in the primary any longer, then we know who the nominee will be. That will be Marco Rubio.”

So what does Crist’s “former” backer at the NRSC, John Cornyn, have to say?

“We don’t support anybody but Republicans in the committee,” Cornyn said of the NRSC. “We will be supporting the Republican and doing everything we can to win.”

Cornyn had initially supported Crist in his Senate primary against Rubio, a former state House speaker.

Later in the day, the Texas senator was asked if he will request that Crist return Republican donations to him. He said “you bet.”

Anybody want to take that bet? Not me, like Erick says, them bucks are gone. Money that will be sorely needed leading up to the main event in November were wasted on a candidate that Cornyn and the NRSC didn’t even have to field; Rubio had announced and was running. Now not only does Cornyn have to defeat the Democrat in the race, he also has to defeat the candidate he formerly supported.

Oh, and by the way, Cornyn and the NRSC has been working the wrong candidate in California’s GOP Senate Primary as well. How many strikes do they get?

The best way to go for conservatives who want to support conservatives for US Senate instead of seeing their money flushed down the worm hole is to donate directly to their chosen candidate, or alternatively, support the Senate Conservatives Fund, chaired by Sen. Jim DeMint.
