Maryland Nullifies Federal Marijuana Prohibition

On April 14, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley signed a bill into law that will set into motion the process for production and distribution of medical marijuana in the state, adding to the long list of states ignoring federal prohibition, effectively nullifying the unconstitutional federal act in limited medical situations. House Bill 881 (HB881) creates the…

U.S. Fed’s Kocherlakota says interested in bitcoin

“A top U.S. Federal Reserve official said on Tuesday he is interested in the fast-emerging bitcoin, although he scoffed at the idea that the virtual currency could replace the dollar. Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank President Narayana Kocherlakota, speaking at a town hall at North Dakota State University, said he is interested in bitcoin as a technology, not as a currency. For certain currency conversions involving the US dollar, the spread can be smaller than 1 pip (1/10,000th of dollar or 0.01%). Moreover, you can execute limit orders. These spreads are attractive considering most banks operate at a spread of about 2.5-3%.” Continue reading

I just thinking out loud here, but some recent developments have me seeing things differently, connecting the dots in a new way. Please pardon this run-on sentence: With Facebook sharing everything with the NSA/FBI, and with the FBI now launching a massive facial recognition program going live for about 10% of the US population, and…

Rachel Maddow Cheers Nullification?

It’s no secret that for years now the popular media personality Rachel Maddow has railed against nullification. Consistent with her partisan Democrat disposition she fear-mongered the return of institutional racism, secession and civil war whenever she approached the subject. Her conclusion was that nullification is a hysterical, reactionary, right-wing radicalism that has no place in modern…
