Who Can Best Advise You?

“It is safe to suggest that your reading of this publication has a great deal to do with the possibility that the country in which you live is approaching that critical stage. Therefore, it may be in your interest to seek the counsel of those who, for whatever reason, have made a long-term study of historical patterns. It would also be beneficial to keep a close eye on those countries in the world that (as stated above) are on the same path of self-destruction as our own but happen to be further along in the pattern. For this reason, the woman pictured above, Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, may be quite useful to you as an advisor.” Continue reading

Summers vs. Yellen: Tweedledumb vs. Tweedledee

“The media are doing their best to create interest in who will be Bernanke’s replacement: Lawrence Summers or Janet Yellen. Summers is a dove. The media have re-defined ‘exit.’ Any reference to an exit these days means merely a reduction of the rate of increase in the present rate of $85 billion a month. The FED is buying over $500 billion of the Treasury’s estimated annual deficit of $650 billion. It is buying almost $500 billion in Fannie-Freddie bonds. What happens to interest rates if the FED stops buying? What happens to Wall Street? What happens to the housing recovery? No one asks Yellen what she thinks would happen. No one asks Summers.” Continue reading

Government works to make federal agencies appear as protagonists on TV

“Many agencies, including U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), actually staff an ‘entertainment and multimedia liaison’ in order to coordinate the agencies starring roles. Brandon A. Montgomery is such a liaison for ICE. In a news release from his agency, he is described as ‘actively working to generate an agency presence in film and TV.’ ‘It’s important to get (ICE) on TV because it ensures we are on the top of the mind to the American public and our stakeholders,’ Montgomery said, noting that it was 10 times as effective as putting an agency in a news blurb. Montgomery touts his influence at acquiring ICE features in TV shows.” Continue reading

Administration Can’t Let Go: Felony Streaming Provisions Of SOPA Are Back

“We’ve been working our way through a paper released last week by the Commerce Department, concerning copyright reform, and will have a much more detailed post about it soon (there’s a lot in there), but over at the Washington Post, they’re highlighting the silly recommendation to bring back the plan to make unauthorized streaming a felony. This was a part of SOPA and was widely discussed. This got a fair amount of attention when Justin Bieber was asked about the law, and said that Senator Klobuchar should be locked up. It’s no surprise that this is coming back. It’s one of the points that’s been raised a few times since the death of SOPA.” Continue reading

The sweat of the sun, the breath of god: Gold through the centuries

“The Aztecs called gold ‘the sweat of the sun.’ And the Egyptians: ‘the breath of god.’ To display his imperial glory, Napoleon gilded Paris in gold. Hitler sought to control all of Europe’s gold as support for his ‘1000-year Reich.’ Now, at the outset of the 21st Century, with gold miners on their knees as even the great gold bulls are filled with doubt, this may be an appropriate moment to look at the precious metal with a touch of historical context. Here are some of the statistics gold has racked up over the centuries, courtesy of our friends at the World Gold Council.” Continue reading

MSNBC Blames Boston Bombing on “Deeply Racist” Alex Jones

“‘Alex Jones may sound crazy, but he has 300 million people that have watched him on YouTube,’ said Wagner, characterizing Jones as ‘deeply racist,’ despite the fact that Jones has preached a message of peaceful, non-violent inclusiveness for the best part of two decades. On the contrary, Alex Jones and Infowars are renowned for communicating a message of non-violence and racial harmony, stemming back from the 90′s when Alex Jones protested against and bullhorned the Ku Klux Klan. In comparison, MSNBC is part owned by General Electric, a titan of the military-industrial complex and one of the biggest arms manufacturers on the planet.” Continue reading

NSA abuses contradict Obama and congressional claims of oversight

“Government officials from President Obama on down have insisted the nation’s surveillance programs are subject to layers of oversight. ‘I am comfortable that the program currently is not being abused,’ Mr. Obama said in a press conference last week, when he announced new efforts at increasing transparency. ‘Part of the reason they’re not abused is because these checks are in place.’ However, the latest revelation that the NSA violated privacy rules thousands of times, as documented in an internal report — an internal report withheld from at least one leader in Congress responsible for oversight — proves they were wrong.” Continue reading
