NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden applies for temporary asylum in Russia

“Fugitive US intelligence leaker Edward Snowden has applied for temporary asylum in Russia, a pro-Kremlin lawyer said Tuesday, after President Vladimir Putin accused Washington of ‘trapping’ him in the country. Snowden, wanted by the United States for revealing sensational details of its vast spying operations, is now spending a fourth week in the transit lounge at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport without crossing the Russian border. Washington has reacted sharply to the possibility that Moscow might offer Snowden a safe haven and accused it of providing him with a ‘propaganda platform.'” Continue reading

Florida Mom Gets 20 Years For Firing Warning Shot After Attack

“The case is receiving renewed media attention after the Zimmerman verdict, because Marissa Alexander pled self-defense under Florida’s stand your ground law. She claims that her ex-husband attacked her and made her fear for her life. She had already taken out a protective order against him after he had assaulted her, including one incident that put her in hospital. She had never been in trouble with the law before her arrest. Alexander was offered a three year sentence if she pled guilty to aggravated assault, but she rejected the deal because she believed she’d done nothing wrong.” Continue reading

Obama Agrees with Hitler on Schooling Children

“In a legal case that seems headed to the US Supreme Court, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has sided with Hitler against parental rights. Romeike v. Holder involves a German family which is seeking asylum in America because Germany has threatened to remove the Romeike’s younger children if they continue to homeschool. In 1938, Adolf Hitler ordered all German children to be educated either in state schools or in government-approved private schools that strictly followed the Nazi blueprint. The Reichsschulpflichtgesetz (Compulsory Education Law), which specifically banned home schooling, remains in force in Germany today.” Continue reading

Seven killed, 261 wounded in Cairo clashes over military coup

“The clashes in the heart of Cairo and in adjacent Giza were the first to rock the Egyptian capital since dozens of Morsi supporters were shot dead outside an elite army barracks early last week. They came just hours after Under Secretary of State Bill Burns — the most senior US official to visit since the army toppled the elected Islamist president on July 3 — appealed for an end to the violence rocking the Arab world’s most populous nation. Thousands of Morsi supporters had poured onto the streets after the iftar meal with which Muslims break their daytime fast during the holy month of Ramadan, to demand the reinstatement of the ousted president.” Continue reading

Subsidized Food Programs: 100 Million Americans

“You may have heard that 47 million Americans are on food stamps, or as they call it these days, SNAP: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. What about subsidized lunches for children? Add 32 million. What about school breakfast programs? What about WIC — Women, Infants, and Children? Don’t forget snacks at day care centers. Then there is the Special Milk Program for schools and a Summer Food Service Program. When schools close, the subsidies still flow. But the small farmer, in whose name the farm subsidy programs exist, disappeared after World War II. Only 2% of Americans live on farms. Then who wins? Agribusiness.” Continue reading
