“Junk-food starved Gazans can now order KFC to go thanks to a new smuggling service which brings takeout from Egypt via a network of underground tunnels. It’s not exactly ‘fast’ — taking several hours to arrive, with the Palestinian delivery company behind it charging hefty prices to cover the cost of fuel and transport. ‘Last chance to order for the Thursday 6:00 pm delivery is Wednesday night,’ says the Yamama delivery firm on its Facebook page. Yamama then orders the meals, about 30 on a typical run, from the KFC outlet in the Egyptian city of El-Arish, some 40 kilometres (25 miles) away. Hundreds of inmates released early in Colorado prison sentencing mess

“Colorado Department of Corrections officials are contacting state judges alerting them that an audit of the state’s prison system has revealed errors in the sentencing of more than 8,000 inmates, including hundreds who were released from prison early. According to the Denver Post, judges are currently reviewing the case files in an attempt to determine what individuals need to be returned to jail, and who among the individuals facing imminent release needs to have their sentence extended. The audit is still in its early stages. Some 8,415 people’s sentences need to be reviewed in all with an estimated 2,500 requiring intensive study and revision.” Continue reading →

LinkedIn’s anti-prostitution policy angers legal Nevada brothel owner

“The recent decision by professional networking site LinkedIn to bar sex workers from posting profiles has led to a disagreement between brothel owners in Nevada, where escorts can legally ply their trade, the Huffington Post reported on Wednesday. ‘Are you then going to shut down Steve Wynn’s casino in Vegas, where gambling is legal?’ asked Dennis Hof, owner of the Moonlight Bunny Ranch. ‘Don’t paint me the same as the people who are doing things illegally.’ LinkedIn, which informed users of the new policy on Monday, now forbids escorts from using the site to look for business.” Continue reading →

Oklahoma ABLE Commission agents bust south Tulsa brewpub for making too-strong beer

“The Oklahoma ABLE Commission cracked down on a south Tulsa brewery Tuesday afternoon. Agents say Pi Pizzeria and Craft Beer House is only licensed to make and sell low-point beer, but some customers complained it’s too strong. ‘Through the sampling process, we sent those samples to the lab and did determine they were making an alcoholic beverage, not low-point beer,’ said Erik Smoot, ABLE Commission agent. New Zealand Supreme Court to hear Kim Dotcom extradition appeal

“The Court of Appeal in March had overturned a decision ordering US prosecutors to hand over the evidence to Dotcom’s legal team as they seek to extradite him to face online piracy charges. The appeal court ruled that a summary of the case would suffice. Dotcom’s lawyers have sought to reinstate the original decision, arguing they could not effectively fight the extradition battle without full disclosure of the evidence against their client. The US Justice Department and FBI want Dotcom to face charges of racketeering, fraud, money-laundering and copyright theft in a US court, which could see him jailed for up to 20 years if convicted.” Continue reading →

Airliner diverted as secure cockpit door locks pilot out mid-flight

“An Air India flight to Bangalore was diverted to another city after the pilot returned from a toilet break and found the door to the cockpit jammed shut, the state-run carrier says. The flight left Delhi but the plane had to be diverted to Bhopal in central India when the pilot realised he could not get back to the controls. ‘The commander of the flight had left the cockpit for a short while to visit the toilet and on returning to the cockpit found the door locked,’ Air India said in statement. It said that ‘all efforts to open the door, even from inside by the co-pilot, failed’. The co-pilot was forced to diverted the flight to Bhopal where the door was repaired.” Continue reading →
