Thanks to Don1 for letting me know that Senator Ken Haar appeared on KLIN’s DriveTime Lincoln show to talk about LB583, (to download and read on your computer, click here) his bill that would award all of Nebraska’s electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote in Presidential elections. Yesterday we published an article on the topic, which can be found by clicking here.
The interview on DriveTime is worth the listen simply for the fact that Senator Haar’s explanation of the issues and answers to the questions posed were so illogical that the entire concept can be seen quite obviously for what it is: a very bad idea.
Either the marketing and PR put together by the out-of-towners who put the strategy together was poorly done, or Senator Haar missed part of the training session.
The only coherent statement I followed from the Senator regarding why Nebraska should jump on this bandwagon is that some polls say 70% of Americans want the popular vote to determine the Presidency.
Wow – let’s change the Constitution based on polling data. Skip the amendment process – maybe we can just text message our votes in, too?
While I wish the interviewer had requested a source for the polling data, the precise question(s) asked, sample size, and most importantly, based some questions on Constitutional principle, the lack of logic in many ways was enough.

- And yes, our condolences go out to him…he is in District 21, which Senator Haar represents. ↩
