Last week I decided to have a conversation with the Counsel for the Accountability and Disclosure Commission about concerns I first disclosed in an editorial published in the Lincoln Journal-Star and reprinted here that I titled “Senator Jeremy Nordquist Listens to His Master’s Voice . . . But Who’s His Master?“ My concerns about Senator Nordquist’s associations with OneWorld Community Health Center (he sits on its Board of Directors) and with Building Bright Futures (he’s apparently employed as a lobbyist of some sort for this non-profit entity) center on the appearance of impropriety created by these facts:
- OneWorld benefits directly and substantially from major legislation the senator has proposed, advocated, and voted for in his official capacity, and
- Building Bright Futures’ legislative and policy agenda reads like a summary of the senator’s own legislative record in the Unicameral.
During my telephone conversation concerning Senator Nordquist, I visited Building Bright Futures’ webpage on the internet. Guess what! Since my article was published in the paper and, later, here at the GiN Joint, Senator Nordquist no longer works in the Policy Development and GOVERNMENTAL Relations Office at Building Bright Futures. No. Now, he works in the Policy Development and COMMUNITY Relations Office there.
Well, I guess that makes it all better then. Never mind.
