Sliding into the Abyss of Despotism

The exercise of broad executive powers have been pushing the United States into the abyss of despotism for decades.

It is often suggested that the president’s first obligation is to protect a singular “American people,” a nebulous and fallacious construct in the first place, from foreign danger.

On the contrary, no such depiction can be drawn from a candid study of the Constitution and the ratification debates. In actuality, this outlook itself is greatly indicative of the extent to which we’ve slid into the abyss of despotism.

Instead, as the executive oath makes clear, the chief duty of the president is to defend the Constitution – which requires broad deference to Congress on almost all matters.
