As we reported the day after the election in “Election Results: Who Says Every Vote Does Not Count?“, Legislative District 8 Candidate John Comstock lost his race by a mere 36 votes.
The Nebraska Secretary of State’s website lists the “unofficial results” as follows: Comstock, 2,906 votes at 49.69%; opponent Burke J. Harr: 2,942 votes at 50.31%.
It was reported to me on Monday by friends in the Omaha area that this race is currently under some kind of review process by election authorities. I am not clear regarding whether or not this razor thin margin triggered an automatic review or recount, but it is confirmed that some process is underway.
Reportedly, one aspect of the review is focusing on matching absentee and early voter ballots to the registered voter rolls. Mr. Harr apparently had an early lead in the race, which would indicate that it came through absentee and early voter ballots.
John Comstock was as a candidate listed as worth considering on our “cheat sheet” both in regards to voting and providing support during the campaign.
When we have further information, we will report it here.
