Private Detectives Filling Gaps Left by Police Budget Cuts

"Detectives like Glemser across cash-strapped states have been getting more calls like these as cities and towns cut their police forces to contend with deep budget cuts. Private detectives are just one piece of the private sector security and policing services that people are increasingly turning to as they worry about crime. The U.S. private security industry is expected to grow 6.3% a year to $19.9 billion by 2016, according to a study by security research group Freedonia Group Inc. In California, where many cash-strapped cities cut police budgets during the recession, residents are turning to detectives, security firms and even the Internet." Continue reading

Is Detroit a Self-Defense Haven?

"Detroit has been getting a lot of attention for its recent shootings. Not the usual criminal stuff, but the step-up in self-defense shootings as people have come to realize that the police only exist to mark the outlines of bodies with chalk. Justifiable homicide in the city shot up 79% in 2011 from the previous year, as citizens in the long-suffering city armed themselves and took matters into their own hands. The local rate of self-defense killings now stands 2,200% above the national average. Residents, unable to rely on a dwindling police force to keep them safe, are fighting back against the criminal scourge on their own. And they’re offering no apologies." Continue reading

Federal Appeals Court Busts Police For Contempt Of Cop Arrest

"The officers did not say they were looking for a white Dodge, and asked Petithomme to produce identification and for permission to search her vehicle. Petithomme refused the search. On a third request for identification, Petithomme asked if she could go inside her home to retrieve it. It was granted, and as soon as she left the officers began searching through the Nissan. She returned and upon being asked a fourth time, she said the license must be in her car. She finally found it. Enraged, Officer Martin arrested Petithomme on the spot, charging her with disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace. The officers said the woman's attitude showed she was 'up to no good.'" Maybe We’ll Reduce the NYPD to Firing Spitballs!

"As a reluctant and endangered resident of New York City, I deeply appreciate those heroes who stand up for my right to defend myself. A number of them work at companies that manufacture or sell guns, and they are boycotting the NYPD! Yes! They have 'pledge[d] not to sell anything to a State or local government agency that can’t be sold to a resident of that state or locality.' Yeehaw! So far, a whopping 95 righteous retailers are onboard! Unfortunately, the three corporations that supply almost all the NYPD's firepower have refused to join their competitors in upholding the Second Amendment: Glock, SIG Sauer, and Smith and Wesson." SWAT ‘automatic assault rifle’ stolen from New Orleans police car

"Deputies in Jefferson Parish says that an 'automatic assault rifle' and other SWAT gear was stolen from a New Orleans Police Department car over the weekend. Gary Raney: The Slave-Catching Sheriff of Ada County, Idaho

"Give Ada County Sheriff Gary Raney whatever credit is due to him for his candor: Like the other sheriffs who have pledged not to carry out unconstitutional federal gun confiscation measures, Raney receives federal subsidies – but unlike his pro-Second Amendment colleagues, Raney is forthright about the fact that he is merely a servile tool of the federal leviathan state. He will confiscate firearms from innocent people if ordered to, but at least he won’t have to walk back any promises he had made to protect their rights." Continue reading

Criminalizing Criticism of the Police

"Dominic Ray Aguilar, a 37-year-old cab driver from Roseville, California, has been charged with making 'terroristic threats' against Police Officer John Moody, who shot 35-year-old Ernesto Duenez 11 times in the driveway of his home in June 2011. Duenez, who was suspected of violating his parole, was unarmed and exiting his pickup truck when Moody shot him. He tried to comply with Moody’s order to get down on the ground, but his foot was caught in a seat belt. On the Facebook page memorializing Duenez, Aguilar wrote: '50 rounds to your dome Moody.'" “Gun Control” Means More State-Licensed Gun Violence

"Barack Obama paid a brief visit to Minneapolis today to rally support for his administration’s proposals to restrict private firearms ownership. Significantly, he didn’t address the public; instead, he met with police officials at the Minneapolis PoliceDepartment Special Operations Center. The White House praised Minneapolis as 'a city that has taken important steps to reduce gun violence and foster a conversation in the community about what further action is needed.' One of those steps was the overt militarization of law enforcement through the promiscuous use of SWAT teams." Continue reading

The New York Daily News reported on Friday that the game also features racist imagery and language. Meanwhile, about three dozen protesters gathered outside police headquarters criticizing the LAPD’s handling of the case, which included two shooting incidents that resulted in three people being injured after being mistaken for Dorner."
