Liberty Empowered Coverage of No War in Syria Rally: Tulsa

"On Saturday of Labor Day weekend, while the majority of Americans were enjoying their time off drinking beer at the lake, a minority of Americans across the nation labored tirelessly for the cause of peace. Most major cities across the nation hosted a No War in Syria Rally, sporting picket signs and protesting American intervention in Syria’s civil war. Even on a worldwide scale, individuals showed their support for peace in record numbers. Here in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a group of about 60 activists gathered together for their No War in Syria Rally: Tulsa, in 104 degree heat to 101st and Memorial to unanimously show opposition to America’s involvement in another country’s civil war." Protesters gather in DC to demand no strike against Syria

"As Congress prepares to consider a proposal for airstrikes in Syria against the regime of Bashar al-Assad, public sentiment is tilted against the idea. Protesters gathered to make their objections felt in the nation's capital this weekend, calling into question President Barack Obama's case that action is necessary to maintain international law, deter other 'bad actors' and protect American credibility." The Resident: Why Gov’t Consolidates Media

"The Telecommunications Act of 1996 was supposed to the broadcast market to competition, saving the American public from monopolies. In reality, the Act opened the door for massive deregulation and media conglomeration. It accomplished this by way of the FCC not enforcing the rules it set forth. Today, we see companies like Sinclair Broadcasting gobbling up huge broadcast market shares. And the FCC continues to try to allow for even more conglomeration. We have an oligopoly in the American media, and it's poised to get even worse. The Resident (aka Lori Harfenist) discusses." Continue reading

Chomsky: U.S. is a ‘rogue state’ that ‘doesn’t pay attention to international law’

"'We should bear in mind that the core principle of the United Nations Charter bars the threat or use of force. So all of this is criminal, to begin with, but he’ll continue with that.' 'The United States is a rogue state,' he averred. 'It doesn’t pay any attention to international law.' Furthermore, he said, '(t)his would be a perfect opportunity to ban chemical weapons, to impose the chemical weapons convention on the Middle East.' The U.S., of course, Chomsky noted, will never go along with that because of one nation in the Middle East 'which has chemical weapons and is in violation of the chemical weapons convention and has refused even to ratify it — namely Israel.'" ‘Syrian rebels plan chem attack on Israel from Assad-controlled territories’

"A chemical attack may be launched on Israel by Syrian rebels from government-controlled territories as a 'major provocation,' multiple sources told RT. The report comes as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov proposed that Syria puts its chemical weapons arsenal under international control for subsequent destruction in order to prevent a possible military strike against the war-torn country. On Sunday, the Senate Select Intelligence Committee released a series of 13 videos showing what is purported to be proof of chemical weapons use in Syria. The administration told senators that the authenticity of the videos was verified by the intelligence community, reported CNN." Continue reading

Russia: Int’l experts have strong proof images of chemical victims fabricated

"Footage and photos of the alleged chemical attack in Syria, which the US cites as the reason for a planned military intervention, had been fabricated in advance, speakers told a UN human rights conference in Geneva. Members of the conference were presented accounts of international experts, Syrian public figures and Russian news reporters covering the Syrian conflict, which back Russia’s opposition to the US plans, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The possible attack by US military without a UN Security Council mandate would violate international law and should be prevented by the United Nations, some of the speakers said." Continue reading

McConnell to Vote ‘No’ On Syria As Election Looms

"'I have never been an isolationist,' McConnell will say, according to his prepared text. 'And a vote against this resolution shouldn’t be confused by anyone as a turn in that direction. But just as the most committed isolationist could be convinced of the need for intervention under the right circumstances when confronted with a threat, so too do the internationalists among us believe that all interventions are not created equal. And this proposal just does not stand up.' Translation: McConnell has a tough primary and general election ahead and can't be seen as going against the will of the people." Continue reading

O’Donnell: Napalm is America’s ‘cheapest weapon of mass destruction’

"He begins with its invention at Harvard in 1942 and documenting its usage in World War II and Vietnam, before moving on to the more significant issue: the 'inhumane' ways in which napalm can kill. 'Napalm attaches to human flesh in a way that’s impossible to remove,' he said. But 'it kills in other ways too. You can be untouched by [a 100 pound napalm bomb] and be killed by a heat stroke. You can be killed by suffocation. You can be killed by breathing in carbon monoxide poisoning. You can be killed by dehydration.' 'Napalm was an ‘instant hit’ in World War II,' he continued. 'It was our cheapest weapon of mass destruction. Each bomb was made of plastic, held 100 gallons of napalm and cost $40.'" Continue reading

Putin: Syria chem arms handover will work only if US calls off strike

"'Of course, all of this will only mean anything if the United States and other nations supporting it tell us that they're giving up their plan to use force against Syria. You can’t really ask Syria, or any other country, to disarm unilaterally while military action against it is being contemplated,' President Putin said on Tuesday. President Putin said that the matter of bringing Syria’s chemical weapons under international control has long been a subject of discussion by experts and politicians. Putin confirmed that he and President Barack Obama had 'indeed discussed' such a possibility on the sidelines of the G20 summit in St. Petersburg last week." Continue reading

10 Chemical Weapons Attacks Washington Doesn’t Want You to Talk About

"Washington doesn't merely lack the legal authority for a military intervention in Syria. It lacks the moral authority. We're talking about a government with a history of using chemical weapons against innocent people far more prolific and deadly than the mere accusations Assad faces from a trigger-happy Western military-industrial complex, bent on stifling further investigation before striking. Here is a list of 10 chemical weapons attacks carried out by the U.S. government or its allies against civilians." Continue reading
