Obama’s Drug War: After Medical Marijuana Mess, Feds Face Big Decision On Pot

"The Department of Justice has cracked down hard on medical marijuana, raiding hundreds of dispensaries, while the IRS and other federal law enforcement officials have gone after banks and landlords who do business with them. Fours years after promising not to make medical marijuana a priority, the government continues to target it aggressively. U.S. attorneys in the states helped beat back local efforts to regulate the medical marijuana industry, going so far as to threaten elected officials with jail. The willingness of top prosecutors to use their power in brazenly political ways is, in many ways, the untold story of Obama's first-term approach to drug policy." Continue reading

Cops lock down Bronx elementary school after gun rumor sparked by talk about toy

"A Bronx school went into lockdown this morning after a campus aide overheard a student talking about his gun -- a toy gun it turned out, officials said. The lockdown was called off after an hour and no weapon was found at PS 4, on Fulton Avenue and East 174th Street, officials said. School officials didn’t want to take any chances so they closed down campus, as heavily armed police swarmed PS 4 to search for that student. 'It's nerve racking. There are police officers here with assault rifles and there are helicopters flying around. It's really scary out here.'" Continue reading

Senators Demand that Banks Be Punished – but Not the Fed

"Bring these banksters to justice. But not the good, gray men of central banking. We are not surprised. The power elites are deathly frightened, in our view, that their control over central banks is in jeopardy. They will sacrifice the entire financial infrastructure to make sure central banks are not attacked. They are trying to do this any way they can. They are trying to set up neo-Pecora hearings to focus on Wall Street and the securities industry in general. There will be similar attacks in Europe and Britain. Maybe in China and Japan too, who knows?" Continue reading

Timothy Geithner Accused Of Alerting Banks To 2007 Interest Rate Cut For 2nd Time

"In the summer of 2007, as storm clouds gathered over the world's financial system, then-New York Federal Reserve President Timothy Geithner allegedly informed the Bank of America and other banks about the possibility the U.S. central bank would lower one of its critical interest rates, according to a senior Fed official. Jeffrey Lacker, the head of the Richmond Fed, originally raised the allegation during a Fed conference call in August 2007, and he stuck to his 5-year-old claim against the current U.S. treasury secretary in a statement provided to Reuters on Friday." Oklahoma Woman Seeks Medical Treatment, Is Jailed Instead, Dies

"Hospital staff reported that Russell wouldn't cooperate and was in too much pain to even lie down, so they asked a Paul's Valley police officer to assist. And that's when Russell's medical emergency morphed into a drug bust. The police officer found two prescription pills on her for which she did not have a prescription, so she was arrested and jailed on drug possession charges. She was found unresponsive in her cell less than two hours later. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has cleared the jail staff of any criminal wrongdoing." Continue reading

Google unveils detailed North Korea map… with gulags

"Google has rolled out a detailed map of North Korea that even labels some of its remote and infamous gulags. Until now North Korea was pretty much a blank canvas to users of Google’s Map Maker, which creates maps from data that is provided by the public and fact-checked in a similar process to that used by Wikipedia. Mr Mysore said the North Korea section had been completed with the help of a 'community of citizen cartographers' working over a period of several years." Continue reading
