Nobel Selects EU … World Snorts

"Regulations pour out of the EU like smog while half of the union is bankrupt and the other half resent paying the bill. How all this is either laudable or peaceful is beyond us. Watching Greece and Spain (and soon France) go up in flames is to watch a spectacle of failure. But the EU has always been a spectacle and its handlers continue to try to manage its persona and profile with less and less success. The more it fails, the more those behind its misguided formation try to defend it and prop it up." Continue reading

The Nine States with the Most Underfunded Pensions

"According to data released this week by Milliman, Inc. and by the Pew Center on the States, there was a $859 billion gap between the obligations of the country’s 100 largest public pension plans and the funding of these pensions. In 2010, only Wisconsin’s pension funds were fully funded. Nine states, meanwhile, were 60% funded or less — this would mean that at least 40% of the amount the state owes current and future retirees is not in the state’s coffers." Continue reading

The Sad History of U.S. Peace Negotiations

"Negotiating for peace to prevent war is not the forte of U.S. governments. The Iranian story is yet to be written, but the press is now reporting that the U.S. and Iran have agreed for the first time to one-on-one negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. Republican Senator Lindsay Graham wants none of it, stating that 'The time for talking is over.' After all, just take a look at all the U.S. military bases surrounding Iran. Sadly, with the above graphic, combined with the U.S.'s history of not negotiating peace, it's not looking so good for those of us who don't want more foreign wars." Continue reading

James Altucher: Why I Won’t Vote

"People get very upset about this voting thing. I’m accused of being unpatriotic, for instance. Or my little 10 year old told me, 'more people will run stop signs if we don’t have a President.' She associates a President with a magical parent. Perhaps projecting her own sense that I don’t give her enough boundaries for her to figure out where the edge of childhood ends and adulthood begins. I let her run a Stop sign when I don’t set a bedtime, or turn her TV off. She wants a President who will tell her when to 'STOP!' So here are some reasons for not voting. I’m not asking anyone to agree with me. Many people like to vote. Do things that you like to do." Continue reading

The ‘Red Pill’ Of Economics

"More and more people are starting to wonder if central banks like the Bank of England and The Fed can just 'rip up' the debt that they've bought via Quantitative Easing, and reduce the national debt of these countries with the stroke of a key. Asking this question, and thinking about the implications of it, is the equivalent of taking the 'Red Pill' of economics. If you start thinking about the possibility that the central bank could just rip up a government's debt, with few negative ramifications, then you might start thinking about government finances in a totally new way that makes you uncomfortable." How Many Muslims in the World? How Many Muslim Terrorists?

"Muslim attacks worldwide and against all targets, failed and successful, add up to 18,000 since 2001. This number is bound to be controversial and subject to error. If this involved 18,000 Muslims, that's a little over one-thousandth of one percent of Muslims who engaged in a terrorist or violent attempted attack or attack anywhere in the world. How many Muslims have American forces killed since 2001? I've found a low-end estimate for 1990 to 2009, and it's 288,000. How many of these were Muslim terrorists? I can't find a tally so far. The number is very, very small relative to 288,000. The tally for drone strikes is 2-3,000 with a high proportion being innocent people." Continue reading

Obama Rep. Schultz on The NDAA and Secret Kill List

"Last night at the presidential debate at Hofstra University, Luke Rudkowski got a chance to talk to Obama's representative congresswomen Debbie Wasserman Schultz in the Spin Room. The Spin room was full of spin as both Obama and Romney representative's dodged questions from WeAreChange after the debates." Continue reading

Michael Scheuer: Pity poor America: Obama, Romney, and Foreign Policy

"When you clear your way through all the spurious hot air about 'American exceptionalism' and 'a world eager for U.S. leadership,' you will hear the ardent desire of two men, two parties, and almost all of the media to maintain and even increase the cultural and military interventionism in the Muslim world that has killed so many Americans at home and abroad in the past sixteen years; which has brought the United States numerous, shameful military defeats; and which has created nothing but the prospect of an ever larger and more costly war with much of Islam in the years ahead." West-Backed Christian Holocaust in Syria

"After the US invasion of Iraq, some 300,000 Christians fled that 'liberated' country for Syria — one of the few places in the Middle East where Christians could feel safe and go about their lives unmolested. US/Saudi/Qatari/Israeli-supported 'freedom fighters' — who as German intelligence finds are as much as 95 percent non-Syrian — are putting an end to that, threatening to completely eradicate a Christian population that goes back to the time of Christ. What do American Christians do? Cheer on the rebels as they kill Christians left and right in Syria because their government tells them they are 'freedom fighters.'" Continue reading

National Emergency Reminder

"Iran threatens each and every one of you. This is a serious threat. It is unusual and extraordinary. It requires emergency measures. It is threatening the American economy. It threatens foreign policy and national security. How do I know? Because William J. Clinton said so and because every president since has said so. Americans should be congratulated for withstanding these threats for the past 17 years straight. Congratulations! You shall go down in history for your courage and capacity to produce and consume in the face of these incessant, unusual, and extraordinary threats." Continue reading
