CIA admits to helping overthrow Iran’s democratically elected leader in 1953

"The CIA has publicly admitted for the first time that it was behind the notorious 1953 coup against Iran’s democratically elected prime minister Mohammad Mosaddeq, in documents that also show how the British government tried to block the release of information about its own involvement in his overthrow. Malcolm Byrne, deputy director of the national security archive, has called on the US intelligence authorities to release the remaining records and documents. 'There is no longer good reason to keep secrets about such a critical episode in our recent past. The basic facts are widely known to every school child in Iran,' he said." Continue reading

LA Businessman Shoots Five Robbers Dead in Four Separate Incidents

"Five robbers made bad decisions. They decided to rob this man’s watch repair shop. They came in armed. They went out feet first. Yet the end of the story is sad. The gangs vowed revenge. He closed his store. He no longer has walk-in customers. Los Angeles is gang-ridden. The social breakdown in this welfare state is obvious to victims. Self-government is declining in a society where the state funds irresponsibility in the name of compassion. Today, California has eleven bills in the legislature to make gun ownership more difficult. The gangs favor these bills. It makes their work so much safer." Continue reading

You Have To Use This Checklist When Buying A House

"There's no way to predict if housing is going up or down. So you need to get Death, Debt, or Divorce on your side. These are basically the ONLY ways you can guarantee you are getting a better deal than anyone else. If every house in an area is going for $400,000 then you want to make sure you don't pay more than $200-250,000. That's called 'good investing'. Good investing is not about predicting the future, it's about getting a deal. This is an important concept no matter what you are investing in and it's the concept everyone forgets. Don't buy a house unless you are getting a deal, even if you've convinced yourself you will living there for 30 years." Continue reading

‘Drug free’ advocate: I smoked pot in college, of course

"David Evans, a criminal defense attorney and special advisor to Drug Free America Foundation, warned that marijuana combined the worst aspects of tobacco and alcohol. He said the drug was highly addictive and caused traffic accidents that killed young people and those who supported legalizing marijuana were naive and misinformed. 'You’re painting a very apocalyptic picture here, Mr. Evans, have you taken marijuana yourself?' Morgan asked. 'Yes, I smoked pot in college, of course,' Evans replied. 'You’re still alive,' Morgan remarked. 'You haven’t killed anyone. You haven’t gone crazy. You seem perfectly well. You seem reasonably rational.'" Continue reading

U.S. officials: We didn’t ask the UK to detain Greenwald’s partner

"U.S. officials did not ask the British government to question the partner of the journalist who first reported secrets leaked by fugitive U.S. intelligence agency contractor Edward Snowden, the White House said on Monday. British authorities did, however, give their U.S. counterparts a 'heads up' before detaining the partner of American journalist Glenn Greenwald, Brazilian David Miranda, the White House said. 'This was a decision that they made on their own, and not at the request of the United States,' White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters at a briefing. 'This is something that they did independent of our direction,' he added." Continue reading

Social Security and Medicare: Twin Disasters Loved by All Age Groups

"The Social Security system, like the Medicare system, is beloved of younger workers, because they think they're going to get a free lunch from the government when they're older, and this enables them to spend less money now for their retirement years. They love it. They figure somebody else is going to pay for their retirement, and they think they're going to dig deep into somebody else's wallet. This is a Ponzi scheme. But Ponzi schemes are incredibly popular with people. Think of Bernie Madoff. People loved to get in. They begged to get in. Madoff realized early that it was this insatiable desire for outsiders to get in that was his sustaining factor." Continue reading

Jack Lew’s “Extraordinary Measures” on Debt Just “Cooking the Books”

"A little known story that got absolutely no coverage from the mainstream media surfaced last week about the reports from the Treasury Department’s Financial Management Service. The FMS reports both the Daily Treasury Statement and the Monthly Treasury Statement. According to these reports the federal deficit rose by $98 billion dollars in July, but somehow the federal government’s debt remained exactly the same at $16,699,396,000,000 for the whole month. It seems that Treasury Secretary, Jack Lew got a bit creative and magically decided to stop the addition of more debt from showing up in the reports. Wow, don’t we all wish we could do that?" MSNBC Blames Boston Bombing on “Deeply Racist” Alex Jones

"'Alex Jones may sound crazy, but he has 300 million people that have watched him on YouTube,' said Wagner, characterizing Jones as 'deeply racist,' despite the fact that Jones has preached a message of peaceful, non-violent inclusiveness for the best part of two decades. On the contrary, Alex Jones and Infowars are renowned for communicating a message of non-violence and racial harmony, stemming back from the 90′s when Alex Jones protested against and bullhorned the Ku Klux Klan. In comparison, MSNBC is part owned by General Electric, a titan of the military-industrial complex and one of the biggest arms manufacturers on the planet." Continue reading

NSA abuses contradict Obama and congressional claims of oversight

"Government officials from President Obama on down have insisted the nation's surveillance programs are subject to layers of oversight. 'I am comfortable that the program currently is not being abused,' Mr. Obama said in a press conference last week, when he announced new efforts at increasing transparency. 'Part of the reason they're not abused is because these checks are in place.' However, the latest revelation that the NSA violated privacy rules thousands of times, as documented in an internal report -- an internal report withheld from at least one leader in Congress responsible for oversight -- proves they were wrong." Nearly Every Major Federal Agency Has Reduced Projected Furloughs

"When sequestration was about to kick in, the Obama administration began a nearly across-the-board campaign to discuss the devastating impact the automatic cuts would have on agency operations. Furloughs, combined with hiring freezes, would disrupt the proper functioning of government, agency chiefs said, as fewer employees working fewer hours could not accomplish the same amount as a fully staffed workforce. While many federal agencies have in fact moved forward with furloughs, most major departments have reduced furlough days, or eliminated them altogether." Continue reading
