Glenn Greenwald Rebuttal To Washington Post’s Walter Pincus

"That you decided to write an entire column grounded solely in baseless innuendo is between you and your editors. But your assertion of several factually false claims about me, Laura Poitras, and others is not. [...] Our NSA stories have been published and discussed in countless countries around the world, where they have sparked shock, indignation and demands for investigation. So revealingly, it is only American journalists who have decided to focus their intrepid journalistic attention not on the extremist and legally dubious surveillance behavior of the US government and serial deceit by its top officials, but on those who revealed all of that to the world." No Military Coups for America? What About November 1963?

"Let’s just keep living our little myths and deferring to the wisdom and authority of our beloved Cold War national-security state, which suspends our freedom and privacy in order to keep us 'safe' from the threats of terrorism that it itself produces. Let’s just keep believing that it’s only foreigners, not Americans, who make 'mistakes' in elections — mistakes that unfortunately sometimes have to be rectified with coups and assassinations. While our national-security state believes in helping foreign counterparts protect their nations from bad rulers through coups and assassinations, let’s just keep telling ourselves that it would never do the same here at home." Mission Accomplished: China Gets Half of Iraq’s Oil.

"You may remember the promise of the neocons in 2003: America’s war with Iraq would be paid for by Iraqi oil. Besides, the war would cost only $50 billion — $60 billion, tops. The war cost $2.2 trillion — $3 trillion, tops — and the oil is being gobbled up by China. The story of how China is buying almost half of Iraq’s oil has not gotten much attention. It does not seem to be consistent with President Bush’s war aims. But that’s how the fortune cookie crumbles. The war cost the Chinese government nothing. It is now using its newly printed counterfeit money to buy the oil that it could not legally buy under the Clinton Administration’s oil export restrictions on Iraq." Continue reading

Mali to Ban Native Gold Mining … Was Jim Willie Right About French Gold Seizures?

"The French not so long ago invaded the impoverished African country of Mali. This invasion was said to have been caused by French concern that Al Qaeda mercenaries from Libya (also destabilized by the French, Americans, NATO, etc.) were finding sanctuary and beginning a further destabilization. If this report by RT is correct, Willie's suspicions look to have been confirmed. Under guise of concern about local mining and lack of taxes, the Mali 'government' has decided to shut down the industry in favor of broad, outside prospecting. Swiss surveyors and other representatives of international mining firms are arriving in Mali to take over from the locals." Continue reading

$179,000 Each–In Debt

"Government and household debt has reached $179,000 per person in the U.S. For the past several years, we've heard pundits blathering on about the 'great deleveraging' that's reduced the household debt burden, freeing up American consumers to borrow more, more, more. The Great Deleveraging is shown here--yes, it's that thin slice of debt writeoffs. Debt has since resumed its inexorable rise. That which is unsustainable will go away. That includes debt, malinvestments, currencies, deficits and yes, entire empires." Continue reading

CDC Report Fatally Shoots Obama’s Theory of Gun Violence

"Obama earlier this year issued an executive order commanding the Centers for Disease Control to do a study of gun violence in America — as if gun violence is caused by a disease. The CDC did what it was told. It has issued a report. It shoots down Obama. 'Between the years 2000-2010 firearm-related suicides significantly outnumbered homicides for all age groups, annually accounting for 61 percent of the more than 335,600 people who died from firearms related violence in the United States.' This creates a major problem for Obama. It’s difficult for the government to prosecute users of unregistered handguns who kill themselves." Continue reading

Ex-Senator: FBI hindered 9/11 inquiry, withheld reports about Sarasota Saudis

"Former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham has accused the FBI in court papers of having impeded Congress’s Joint Inquiry into 9/11 by withholding information about a Florida connection to the al-Qaeda attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people. Graham said the FBI kept the 9/11 Commission in the dark, too. He said co-chairmen Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton and executive director Philip Zelikow all told him they were unaware of the FBI’s Sarasota investigation. Moreover, Graham stated that Deputy FBI Director Sean Joyce, the Bureau’s second in command, personally intervened to block him from speaking with the special agent-in-charge of the Sarasota investigation." Government Spying Has Always Focused On Crushing Dissent … Not On Keeping Us Safe

"High-level American government officials have warned for 40 years that mass surveillance would lead to tyranny. They’ve warned that the government is using information gained through mass surveillance in order to go after anyone they take a dislike to. And a lieutenant colonel for the Stasi East German’s – based upon his experience – agrees. You don’t have to obsess on the NSA’s high-tech spying to figure out what the government is doing. Instead of focusing on catching actual terrorists, police spy on Americans who criticize the government, or the big banks or the other power players." Continue reading
