Federal and State Sovereignty Threat You May Not Know About

A simple search on Google for the term “sustainable development” with the “images” tab selected yields a veritable treasure trove of images, many of which are similar to the one above.  Of course the term “sustainable development” sounds so good – who doesn’t want development that is sustainable? BUT, I don’t know about anyone else, [...]

Mayor Beutler: Crafty Politician, Walter Mitty, or Just Going Rogue?

By Shelli Dawdy As I noted yesterday, Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler held a press conference earlier this week wherein he announced a methane gas drilling project that was just beginning at the Bluffs Road facility. The City’s Public Works department had commenced drilling 60+ wells and installing a piping system to capture methane gas from [...]

Time To Take the Bite Out of Beutler Before He Implements Cap & Trade in Lincoln

By Shelli Dawdy Just when I thought I could not possibly ever be surprised at what might come out of my television, I was reminded that my brain is simply not wired to conceive of the endless number of nonsensical ideas politicians will attempt to implement while we’re all looking the other way. I really [...]

Stopping The Big Government Trend: Have We Earned It?

Those of us who believe our state and our country are going very much in the wrong direction should expect it will require much from all of us. Are we all doing all that we can do? George Washington’s favorite play was Cato, the story of a Roman who struggled, along with others to preserve [...]

Editor’s Note: Thanks to Don Raskey for this excellent, well researched article. Don worked hard with the No2Arena people to get the full facts in front of Lincoln voters. Federal Funding Tap Dance: Are States Puppets Or Partners?

When considering how to get out of the way of the growing red ink tsunami gushing out of D.C., one of the first questions that comes to mind is what states can do about it. Many federal programs could be rejected by states, but they aren't. Obviously, they want the money. Prior governors and legislators have opted to accept federal funds in an effort to tout how much they accomplish while in office, handing the strings and increased obligations to the next set of officials.

GiN Whine List First Honorees: The Green Shirts

The City of Lincoln budget has been in trouble year after year. One of the reasons is the very loud folks who show up at every turn to demanding that every city program remain in place. Grassroots in Nebraska has a new feature: The Whine List. Some recent attendees of a City Council meeting are a first "honorees".

Lincoln Mayors Office Wants Your Input on the Budget? Sorta

By Shelli Dawdy This is almost laughable. Almost. I find no small irony in the fact that the discussion about the City of Lincoln budget conveniently occurs after the primary election is over. It’s particularly convenient this year following the full court press (yes, pun intended) to build a new arena. A budget discussion at this point is [...]

HELL NO To Arena – It Is NOT Just a Lincoln Issue It Is a NEBRASKA Issue

By Shelli Dawdy I’m sure there are many Nebraskans who may not have even heard about the City of Lincoln arena issue and those who have understandably don’t focus on it because it is…well, a City of Lincoln issue. And yes, it is, to the extent that the residents of Lincoln are the folks who appear [...]
