"The task force agreed that tourists should be sold smaller amounts than residents, and only Colorado residents who’ve lived in the state two or more years should be allowed to sell marijuana at retail. Retail locations would also be required to sell only what they grow. Additionally, starting in 2014 only licensed medical marijuana dispensary owners will be allowed to apply for recreational sales permits, but the application process would open to all Colorado residents starting in 2015." "The Associated Press reports that eight former DEA administrators are urging the Obama administration to sue Washington and Colorado over their voter-approved moves toward marijuana legalization. Hopefully the administration will choose to ignore this thuggish recommendation. But if they do decide to litigate, this will be another sign that the feds don’t give a damn about the will of the people. Liberty-loving Americans should respond to this federal intrusion with a massive wave of civil disobedience. "The indigenous town of Cherán used to be like many places in Mexico, caving under the weight of drug-related crime and a police force that did little to stop it. But about two years ago, citizens here threw out the police, and took over their local government, running the town according to indigenous tradition. So far, they’ve had remarkable success. About six months after villagers threw out the police, the Mexican state granted the town a degree of legal autonomy to govern itself on the local level, according to indigenous tradition." "Federal prosecutors will crack down on recreational marijuana dispensaries and growers even in states where they are legal, U.S. drug czar Gil Kerlikowske told a Canadian news magazine this week. The statement appears to be the first from a federal official to state explicitly that the federal government will prosecute dispensaries and producers once they are licensed in Washington and Colorado. "A group of protesters brandished their guns at the Washington State Capitol on Saturday to defend their right to bear arms. The event was organized by the group 2nd Enforcers, which warned many of the 30 gun-related bills to be considered by the state legislature were a threat to people’s Second Amendment rights. The bills would expand background checks to cover all gun purchases in the state, make leaving a loaded gun in a location accessible to children a crime of reckless endangerment, allow cities to prohibit guns at parks or recreational facilities, and ban guns from school campuses, among other things." Hundreds of thousands march against austerity in Portugal

"Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of Lisbon and other Portuguese cities Saturday to protest against the government's austerity measures. The rallies were organised by a non-political movement which claimed 500,000 marched in the country's capital and another 400,000 in the main northern city of Porto. But the mood of the crowd was clearly political, calling for new elections with banners declaring 'Portugal to the polls!' and 'If you fall asleep in a democracy, you wake up in a dictatorship'. British vigilantes fighting revenue-driven traffic enforcement

"Meet the NoTo Mob, a group dedicated to fighting what they see as unfair parking tickets and charges. During the week they're normal blokes (and the odd woman). But on Saturdays they come together for a common cause. They follow council CCTV cars, or 'spy cars', then stand nearby holding signs to warn drivers about the presence of a CCTV vehicle and potential fine if they break the rules. It's opposed to what it sees an unfair parking enforcement.
