"Hope resident Jennie Stormes advocated for the change in the law on behalf of Jackson Stormes, a 14 year old who has used marijuana to reduce the symptoms of Dravet Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy. She said the substance has reduced the intensity and duration of her son’s seizures, after years of unsuccessful approaches such as brain surgery. 'The additional doctor appointments for a child who has failed so many medications, brain surgery, and other treatments are cruel and the cost is burdensome for a single mother who is working more than one job without any child support,' said Stormes, a pediatric nurse." Medical Marijuana Achieves ‘Complete Remission’ Of Crohn’s Disease With No Side Effects

"Crohn's disease, one of several inflammatory bowel diseases, achieved 'complete remission' in nearly half the subjects of one study that were exposed to smoking medical marijuana on a regular basis. Published in the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, the study examined the effects of consistent marijuana use on Crohn's patients who suffered from severe cases of the disease. The results of the 21-subject study point toward the drug's anti-inflammatory properties as being responsible for quieting symptoms in many patients, and even reaching total remission in others." "Revina Garcia reportedly got into an accident in which she slammed into a truck while having a diabetic episode and said she couldn’t open the door of the car. 'I just didn’t know how to open the door,' she told KOAT. A sheriff’s deputy removed the woman from the car, slammed her face down down on the pavement and left her there. Police finally picked her up and took her to the back of a police car, where they determined her blood sugar level was low and called paramedics to treat her. KOAT reported that Santa Fe County Sheriff Robert Garcia commented on the incident, 'In this case there was no resistance. We are looking at that very seriously.'" Continue reading →

But when the president decided to enforce only certain portions of the healthcare law and delay others, he shifted the cost of health insurance onto the backs of taxpayers. This is all on top of that private insurance premiums will rise between 20 to 60% in 2014, and some as much as 100%. How long will the private-insurance market survive with such exploding costs? "Bloomberg recently signed an Executive Order (which probably created an exhilarating rush) that: '...requires that agencies assess opportunities to promote the use of stairways, and that agencies train design and construction personnel in the use of the City’s Active Design Guidelines.' [...] 'Additionally, the Bloomberg Administration plans two items of legislation to promote access to stairways in all new construction and buildings undergoing major renovations in New York City. The first bill requires that building owners give occupants access to at least one, clearly identified stairway in the building; and post signs that prompt stair use near elevators.'" FDA approves first brain wave test for ADHD

"US regulators on Monday approved the first brain wave test for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, saying it may improve the accuracy of diagnoses by medical experts. Cases of ADHD are on the rise in the U.S., as are the number of prescriptions for stimulants doled out to young people who appear to have difficulty concentrating or controlling impulses. The new test, known as the Neuropsychiatric EEG-Based Assessment Aid (NEBA) System, measures electrical impulses given off by neurons in the brain. 'The theta/beta ratio has been shown to be higher in children and adolescents with ADHD than in children without it,' the FDA said." Continue reading →
