Health advocates want menthol cigarettes banned

"The American Lung Association and other health groups are asking federal regulators to ban menthol in cigarettes. The groups says the minty taste is just as effective at getting smokers hooked as other flavorings that were banned under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 2009. The Tobacco Control Legal Consortium, a group of researchers, academics, non-profits and government health agencies, filed a citizen petition with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last week asking for an investigation into menthol cigarettes. More than 80 percent of African-Americans smoked the product, according to the groups." Continue reading

The Coming ObamaCare Shock

"In total, it appears that there will be 30 million to 40 million people damaged in some fashion by the Affordable Care Act—more than one in 10 Americans. When that reality becomes clearer, the law is going to start losing its friends in the media, who are inclined to support the president and his initiatives. We'll hear about innocent victims who saw their premiums skyrocket, who were barred from seeing their usual doctor, who had their hours cut or lost their insurance entirely—all thanks to the faceless bureaucracy administering a federal law." Cops Barge Into Home, Take Baby After Parents Seek 2nd Medical Opinion

"The next day police showed up at the Nikolayev’s home with representatives from Child Protective Services (CPS). Alex went outside to meet them, where he says he was 'pushed against the building.' When he asked if he was being placed under arrest, he said they 'smacked me down onto the ground [and] yelled out, ‘I think I got the keys to the house.’' Seeing the scene outside, Anna set up a camera in front of her door. Video shows police letting themselves in without a warrant, and taking the baby. 'I’m going to grab your baby, and don’t resist, and don’t fight me okay?' one officer can be heard telling the mother in the video." Continue reading

Lawmakers, aides may get Obamacare exemption

"Congressional leaders in both parties are engaged in high-level, confidential talks about exempting lawmakers and Capitol Hill aides from the insurance exchanges they are mandated to join as part of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, sources in both parties said. Yet if Capitol Hill leaders move forward with the plan, they risk being dubbed hypocrites by their political rivals and the American public. By removing themselves from a key Obamacare component, lawmakers and aides would be held to a different standard than the people who put them in office." Continue reading

FDA, FBI Raid Tulsa Cancer Clinic

"A U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation shut down a Tulsa cancer clinic Tuesday afternoon. Federal agents showed up at Camelot Cancer Care in south Tulsa around 11 a.m. and served a search warrant. Sam Bass said his father-in-law took $13,000 out of his savings to pay for a 20-day treatment program. But as they left Camelot, FDA and FBI agents showed up. Bass said they asked him to leave his wife's medication behind. Sam said his wife's treatment program did include Laetrile. The chemical, which is found in the pits of some fruits and nuts, is also listed on Camelot's website. But, it's not approved by the FDA." Continue reading

U.S. Hospitals Quietly Deport Hundreds Of Undocumented Immigrants, Often While Unconscious

"A recent report compiled by immigrant advocacy groups made a rare attempt to determine how many people are sent home, concluding that at least 600 immigrants were removed over a five-year period, though there were likely many more. In interviews with immigrants, their families, attorneys and advocates, The Associated Press reviewed the obscure process known formally as 'medical repatriation,' which allows hospitals to put patients on chartered international flights, often while they are still unconscious. Hospitals typically pay for the flights." Continue reading

Supreme Court strikes down warrantless blood tests in DUI cases

"Police following up on drunk driving investigations will no longer be able to draw their suspect’s blood without a court order authorizing the search, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday. In a 5-4 decision, with Justices Sonya Sotomayor, Antonin Scalia, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Anthony Kennedy and Elena Kagan making up the majority, the court ruled that the natural expiration of alcohol in the bloodstream does not constitute 'destruction of evidence,' which would otherwise give officers cause for a warrantless search." Terrible Costs of a ‘Modern Economy’

"When large democracies create state mandates they will inevitably be exploited. Now it appears that nearly a million in Britain were taking advantage of sickness-related benefits that they were not eligible for. This figure is arrived at via reports that 878,300 'decided not to have an official assessment of whether they were fit for work.' The Telegraph informs us this was more than a third of the total number of people claiming sickness-related benefits. 'As well as the 878,300 who chose to drop their claims, another 837,000 who did take the a medical test were found to be fit to work immediately, while a further 367,300 were judged able to some level of work.'" David Lewis attorney says gun confiscation no “error”

"All of this apparently stems from Governor Cuomo’s signature gun control bill, the SAFE Act, which requires mental health professionals to notify the state when they believe a patient is at risk of hurting themselves or others. State Police and the Erie County Clerk had misidentified Lewis as such a threat, confusing him with someone else with the same name. Both sides have blamed each other for the snafu. It’s not sitting well with some State Senator Michael Ranzenhofer (R-Amherst) and State Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak (D-Cheektowaga). They are calling for an investigation of how the police are using medical records to seize guns." Continue reading

Puppies & Kittens & Censors…Oh my! Government Muzzles Internet Pet Veterinarian

"Can the government silence and shut down licensed professionals for giving advice online? Dr. Ron Hines is a highly regarded licensed veterinarian who's never had any complaints against him. Being a disabled and retired senior citizen, the Internet allows him to remain productive in his golden years. Yet he's been fined and shut down for giving advice on the Internet, often for free, to people around the planet who have no other access to veterinary care for their animals." Continue reading
