Columbia-Juilliard Student (and Award Winning Musician) Committed for 30 Days After Cursing at Professor

"After cursing at a professor during a Spanish final, former Columbia-Juilliard student Oren Ungerleider was involuntarily committed to St. Luke’s Hospital and kept there against his will for 30 days, according to a lawsuit he filed against the University this month. When he arrived at St. Luke’s, Ungerleider was interviewed by a series of psychiatrists, and he refused to answer their questions, the complaint says. When he tried to leave, three doctors tackled him and forcibly injected him with the drug Haldol. Doctors medicated him against his will and kept him in containment, it says." Continue reading

Bill Bonner: Revolving Zombies

"The defining characteristic of a zombified system is the way it hands out its rewards. In an honest economy, people do their best. They work hard. They take their chances. Some prevail because they are productive. Others are just lucky. The chips fall where they may. But as the system is taken over by zombies, the chips fall where they are told to fall. Rather than to honest and efficient producers, the rewards go to those who curry favors." Continue reading

Jail Time For Obamacare Supermarket Food Labeling

"The proposed regulation would require store owners to label prepared, unpackaged foods found in salad bars and food bars, soups and bakery items. Erik Lieberman, regulatory counsel at the Food Marketing Institute, said testing foods for nutritional data will require either expensive software or even more costly off-site laboratory assessments. Failure to get it right comes with stiff penalties: 'If you get it wrong, it's a federal crime, and you could face jail time and thousands of dollars worth of fines.' The FDA says much of ObamaCare is aimed at helping Americans live healthier lives, and these proposed labeling requirements would help them do just that." Continue reading

Number of People who will Lose Job-Based Health Insurance Doubles Because of Obamacare

"Seven million people will lose their job-based health insurance, according to a new economic report from the Congressional Budget Office. That’s nearly double the previous estimate of 4 million. According to NBC, the 'fiscal cliff' deal cut by Congress 'takes away some of the tax breaks that employers get for providing health insurance to workers and their families. The change will lead to a greater reduction in such coverage and higher enrollment in insurance exchanges than previously estimated by CBO.'" Continue reading

Ex-Sen. Ben Nelson Cashes in on his Obamacare Vote

"Sen. Ben Nelson delivered a crucial vote to pass Obamacare into law in 2009, and now he is cashing out of the Senate to make money off the organizations that benefitted from the legislation. Nelson's last day as a senator was Jan. 3, and on Jan. 22 he announced he had taken two jobs on K Street. Nelson's second K Street job, CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, might not even exist without Obamacare. Obamacare mentions the NAIC 18 times. Some provisions of the law basically delegate regulatory power to the NAIC. Now, with Ben Nelson on the payroll, the NAIC can be even more confident it will get its wishes." Continue reading

Harvard Meta-Study Indicates Fluoride Reduces Children’s IQ

"A recent report from the U.S. National Research Council (NRC 2006) concluded that adverse effects of high fluoride concentrations in drinking water may be of concern and that additional research is warranted. Findings from our meta-analyses of 27 studies published over 22 years suggest an inverse association between high fluoride exposure and children's intelligence. The results suggest that fluoride may be a developmental neurotoxicant that affects brain development at exposures much below those that can cause toxicity in adults. In conclusion, our results support the possibility of adverse effects of fluoride exposures on children's neurodevelopment." Continue reading
