New Barbados currency ‘more secure’ [May 2013]

"Producers of fake Barbados money should not be smiling all the way to the bank anytime soon. On the heels of what it said was 'an increase in counterfeit activity in 2012', the Central Bank of Barbados has unveiled the island’s first new banknotes in 40 years. Central Bank of Barbados officials and representatives from British-based currency printer De La Rue officially introduced the new notes this morning at the Grande Salle, Tom Adams Financial Centre, saying they carried advanced security features within a modern design that was in the making for the last three years." Cyprus central bank: Bitcoin use dangerous

"The Central Bank (CBC) has said use of virtual currency bitcoin is extremely dangerous, the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) said on Tuesday. 'Using any virtual money is extremely dangerous because they are not monitored by any authority, thus operating without control,' CNA said, quoting the CBC. In a written response later on Tuesday, Danny Brewster the CEO of Neo & Bee, the largest business in the world that is building infrastructure around the Bitcoin technology, said he had been trying for the past two weeks to reach and arrange a meeting with the CBC so that it could operate under the appropriate regulatory framework." Top Hedge Fund Manager on Global Equity Trends and Blown-Up Markets

"Dr. Conrad certainly participated successfully in his era, and his hedge fund uses the latest diversified strategies and instruments around the world to achieve further success today. He's even purchasing farmland and is expanding his commodity positions generally because he believes US equity markets are going to underperform considerably in the next decade. In today's hyper-regulated environment, the kinds of non-regulated, private, diversified strategies that Dr. Conrad employs stand as testimony to diversifying broadly over assets and instruments. Rockier times are surely coming, though not before a 'Wall Street Party' that may elevate equity positions considerably." Continue reading

Tell President Obama to Support Warrants for Email Spying

"The IRS, FBI, DEA, and even local law enforcement can access your stored emails, private social media messages, and cloud documents, without a warrant. Bills to reform ECPA have gained huge support in recent months from both parties in Congress. But... A power grab by the Securities and Exchange Commission is now blocking this legislation. They want a special carve-out so regulatory agencies can continue to access your documents without a warrant. This would neuter ECPA reform. The SEC did NOTHING to stop Bernie Madoff, even when they had legally acquired evidence. Shouldn't they first demonstrate more ability to use legal evidence before asking for illegal sources?" Central Banking: Sterile as the Grave

"Central banking is a modern religion, a technocratic one. The world's top men, the ones who control banking, want to present central banking as a science. Any sense of spontaneity, gaiety or eccentricity is to be drained from the process. What is left is a dutiful acknowledgement that those minding the money store are the best of the best – and chosen for their fealty to honesty and their honest resoluteness in the face of the temptations of corruption. A straight-shooter, fearless, well-meaning, earnest ... even a bit nebbish. That's how the central banker is basically presented to the world. You don't usually see them in relaxed environments. You hardly ever see them at barbecues." Continue reading

$1bn payout expected as Russian regulator pulls plug on ‘dubious’ bank

"Russia’s Central Bank (CBR) has revoked the license of Master Bank over $61 million in alleged illegal banking transactions. Over 1000 ATMs are frozen, and the head office is being raided by police. Massive money laundering operations and shady aсcounting prompted the regulator to withdraw the license, part of a larger overhaul to close down corrupt banks in Russia. The withdrawal of Master Bank's license means that its estimated $1.5 billion (47.4 billion rubles) in private funds are now frozen, with Russia’s Deposit Insurance Agency promising to pay out $917 million (30 billion rubles) to bank customers by December 4." Peter Schiff & Max Keiser talk of greatest Ponzi of our time

"In this episode of the Keiser Report, Max Keiser and Stacy Herbert discuss drinking the kool aid (never mind the cyanide) while the young and unemployed of Ireland are encouraged to emigrate by government economists determined to flatter their Troika stats. In the second half, Max interviews author and investor, Peter Schiff, about inflation in fraud as governments want a cut of financial crimes and the trickle down monetary policy ponzi scheme." ‘Without third party bitcoin is safer than Fed notes’

"WM: What we see in the world today with the libor crisis, and Greece, and the failure in Cyprus is regulation does not work. You have regulatory capture, you just have system failure. And the thing that makes bitcoin exciting for people that believe in bitcoin is the fact that it is an emergent system. If it does require regulation to survive then it really wasn’t as good as we thought it was. These sorts of things do happen. You can call this a bank. I would say this is a hosted service run by an 18-year-old. It is not a bank. The people who trusted the third party were really giving away the strength of bitcoin which does not require a third party." Continue reading

Swiss court convicts former IMF official over Czech mining scam

"De Groote, previously an administrator at the International Monetary Fund, was accused of providing a veneer of credibility, with the cash purportedly coming from investors. ATS reported that he received almost one million Swiss francs for his role in the scam. The five Czechs, including former board members, had managed to gain control of 97 percent of the company. They went on to launder more than a billion Swiss francs. The money was stashed in bank accounts in Switzerland and neighbouring Liechtenstein, in the name of more than 30 firms based in the Bahamas, the Isle of Man and other offshore havens." FINTRAC collecting too much info on innocent Canadians: privacy watchdog

"By law, Canadian banks, casinos and thousands of other businesses are required to report all financial transactions over $10,000, and any movement of money they suspect may be linked to terrorism or laundering the proceeds of crime. But in a special report to Parliament today, Privacy Commissioner Jennifer Stoddart complains that an investigation of the Financial Transactions Reports Analysis Centre, known as FINTRAC, found found everyday financial transactions of ordinary Canadians — things such as down payments for homes and cars, and wire transfers from families overseas to their children studying here. FINTRAC has amassed over 165 million reports." Continue reading
