Will the FDA Harm Compounding Pharmacies?

"The FDA knew, as early as 2002, that ONE compounding pharmacy was doing risky things. But the FDA took no action until 2012. By that point, 700 people were sick and 53 had died. The FDA Commissioner then went on 60 Minutes and lied to the American people. She claimed this tragedy happened because the FDA lacked regulatory authority. But a House investigation showed the opposite. The FDA simply failed to do its job. Now the FDA wants to use its incompetence as an excuse to grab more power. The opposite should happen. U.S. warns of cyber attacks on medical devices

"US authorities on Thursday warned makers of medical devices and hospital networks to step up efforts to guard against potential cyber attacks. The US Food and Drug Administration said implanted devices, which could include pacemakers or defibrillators, could be connected to networks that are vulnerable to hackers. An FDA warning notice was sent to medical device manufacturers, hospitals, medical device user facilities, health care technical staff and biomedical engineers. It said the agency has recently 'become aware of cybersecurity vulnerabilities and incidents that could directly impact medical devices or hospital network operations.'" Continue reading →

Utah Woman Killed Allegedly “Assassination Style” By Now Disbanding Special Narcotics Unit

"Melissa Kennedy and Frederick Willard, parents of the late Danielle Willard, are suing local police in an extraordinary case in which they say that their daughter was shot to death 'assassination style' by a now disbanded special narcotics unit that has been accused of corruption and abuse. They are using West Valley City, its police Officers Shaun Cowley and Kevin Salmon, Lt. John Coyle, Police Chief Thayle 'Buzz' Nielsen, and 10 Doe officers, in Federal Court. The unit was disbanded after the disappearance of money and drugs as well as the tossing out of roughly 100 drug cases. America’s private prison system is a national disgrace

"Since 1980, the US prison population has grown by 790%. We have the largest prison population of any nation in the history of the world. One in three African-American men will go to jail at some point in his life. Imprisoning that many people, most of them for non-violent offenses, doesn’t come cheap, especially when you’re paying private contractors. The United States now spends $50bn on our corrections system every year. Much of that money goes to private contractors, who are doing quite well living off of American corporate welfare – at the expense of the American taxpayer, whose dollars are funding this mass incarceration project." New York woman solves her father’s cold case murder 26 years later

"A man arrested in Miami last Thursday who confessed to the killing of a New York restaurant owner 26 years ago was caught thanks to the persistence of a daughter who never forgot the man’s name. The NYPD had improperly closed the case on Martinez’s killing. Joselyn Martinez was just 9 years old when her father was shot and killed. In November 2012, she found her father’s cold case file in the NYPD’s 34th precinct archives. Martinez worked furiously for three months before approaching police again with evidence she’d collected online, paying less than $300 to track the man down. "When Boulder, Colorado resident Chrissy Smiley returned to her condo after walking her dog, she was stunned to find a card from a police officer on her dining room table. When she called the department she was informed that the fact she had left a sliding door unlocked and partially open constituted 'probable cause' to conduct a welfare check. The Boulder Police Department insists that entering what they call 'unsecured residences' is 'standard operating procedure' and that it will continue.
