John Kerry’s Tender Sensibilities

"In response to Bashir Assad’s crossing of a 'red line' by allegedly using chemical weapons against his own people, Secretary of State John Kerry cites his own fatherly feelings as justification for the all-but-inevitable looming US military intervention in Syria. 'As a father, I can’t get the image out of my head, of a father who held up his dead child, wailing …' Hopefully CNN will try extra hard to sanitize the war footage from Syria once the bombing starts, now that we know how badly dead Syrian kids upset Kerry. Because there are a lot more dead Syrian kids on the way. This is the same John Kerry who served in Vietnam, and who backed two attacks on Iraq and one on Afghanistan, is it not?" Continue reading

Official wants E-cigarettes covered in school rules

"The Citrus County School District wants to crack down on anything that even looks like cigarette smoking. According to the Citrus County Chronicle, Planning and Growth Management Director Chuck Dixon has proposed adding language that would include electronic cigarettes to the school's no smoking policy. Dixon said the Florida Department of Health recommended language for e-cigarettes be inserted into the district’s policy. Since the Food and Drug Administration doesn't have a minimum age for who can purchase E-cigarettes, the district wants to make sure the students don't have them." Continue reading

Pro-Life…Until Birth

"Witness Rep. Trent Franks, who jumped upon his Twittering high horse to machine gun his 'pro-life' position into the faces of his 'opponents' on the pro-death side. The tens of thousands of innocent children killed by the US invasion of Iraq do not bother Rep. Franks in the slightest, because they had the misfortune of being born in a country where the US dislikes the leader. They don't count -- just like the live babies stabbed to death by Doctor Death Gosnell. They don't count. That puts him in the 'the price was worth it' camp, i.e. the same relativistic camp that argues that some lives are more important than others." Continue reading

2.7 Million Children Under the Age of 18 Have a Parent in Prison or Jail

"Most prisoners are parents of children under 18 years of age. Two-thirds of incarcerated parents are nonviolent offenders, often locked up on minor drug-related charges. They make up the majority of parents in prison, and they and their children are the ones criminal justice reform will most affect. One in 28 kids in the United States (as of 2010) has a mother or father, or both, in lockup – a dramatic change from the one in 125 rate a quarter of a century ago. One in nine black children have an imprisoned parent, four times as many 25 years ago. 14,000 or more children of the imprisoned annually enter foster care, while an undetermined number enter juvenile detention and adult prisons." 19 Crazy Things That School Children Are Being Arrested For In America

"Unfortunately, we live in a country where paranoia has become standard operating procedure. The American people have become convinced that the only way that we can all be 'safe' is for this country to be run like a militarized totalitarian police state. So our public schools are run like prisons and our public school students are treated like prisoners. The United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world by far, and our schools are preparing the next generation to either 'do time' in the prison system or to live as good little slaves in the Big Brother prison grid that is being constructed all around us."
