Comment on GiN Site Reveals Troubling Attitudes of Too Many

“Unions exist to protect workers and ensure that our children receive a quality education and that those who work for the state and educate your children live healthy, decent lives. I am opposed to CIR reform. The CIR is not the source of the problem. CEO salaries are the source of the problem.” The above [...]

ACTION ALERT: YOU Can Do Something About That Health Care Law

By Shelli Dawdy UPDATE: This article is generating a lot of interest and of course that is a very good thing. I am concerned, however, that people from other states may be disappointed when they discover the fact this is a particular call to Nebraskans to act. For those who ARE from outside NE, I [...]

Election 2010: A Whole Lotta Hype or Can YOU Help NE?

By Shelli Dawdy There’s been a lot of hype about November 2, 2010, a good deal of which amounts to distracting people from focusing on important races and issues within their state, county, and local area. I hope I’m wrong about what may happen when reality starts to set in in the weeks and months [...]

What We Can Do To Stop Health Care: So Far It Is NOT Enough

Two-thirds of Nebraskans don’t want the health care law implemented. Of that number it’s impossible to know how many realize that there is more than one way to fight its implementation. Considering the potential damage the fully implemented law would cause to the economy, quality of care, medical innovation, and individual liberty, it stands to [...]

Ever Try To Pin Jello To The Wall?

I’ve been scratching my head for a long time now about something. A lot of people say they are sick of politicians. But most politicians seem to think we want politically correct double speak. Nebraska Deem & Pass? LB 1110 Proved Shenanigans Not Limited to D.C.

Posted by Shellinda: As a couple of Americans who have spent too much time focused on Washington, D.C. and not enough within our state (but making an effort to change this), we wonder whether the maneuvers regarding a certain piece of legislation introduced last session is common practice in the Nebraska Unicameral. We suspect it [...]

Politician Deafness & Other Natural Phenomenon

Posted by Shelli Dawdy Why do federal elected officials seem to be impervious to the objections of their constituents, specifically when those objections are voiced in large numbers? That phenomenon was very well illustrated by the drama that reached a crescendo on October 3, 2008. Congress passed the bailout bill (TARP) despite call ratios into [...]

Where Does Nebraska Get Its Money?

I don't know about anyone else, but I am rather shocked to discover that Nebraska receives so very much of its budget from the Federal government. Silly, silly me. So much for state sovereignty...Seems rather curious that our Governor has been complaining about the acceptance of federal funds recently...

Federal Funding Tap Dance: Are States Puppets Or Partners?

When considering how to get out of the way of the growing red ink tsunami gushing out of D.C., one of the first questions that comes to mind is what states can do about it. Many federal programs could be rejected by states, but they aren't. Obviously, they want the money. Prior governors and legislators have opted to accept federal funds in an effort to tout how much they accomplish while in office, handing the strings and increased obligations to the next set of officials.
