Getting Arrested for Laughing Is No Joke

"The Justice Department is prosecuting a woman who laughed during a Senate hearing to confirm Jeff Sessions as attorney general. I can sympathize with her somewhat absurd plight because I was once tossed out of the press box in the Supreme Court for laughing at the wrong time." Continue reading

The 45 times Trump said attacking Syria was a bad idea and might start WWIII

"In October, Trump blasted then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's position on Syria — that the U.S. military should take out al-Assad's airfields, the exact type of strike Trump ordered Thursday — by saying attacking a Russian-backed government could start World War III." Continue reading

Trump said Obama needed war authority from Congress. Will he ask for it now?

"A senior administration official told reporters on Friday that the president acted pursuant to his authority under Article 2 of the Constitution, which makes him commander in chief. And, the aide said, top officials including Vice President Mike Pence are in 'constant contact with congressional leaders.' On Thursday night, Trump laid out conventional U.S. rationales for unilateral military action in a way that suggests he does not see a need for formal authority from Congress." Continue reading

Trump Betrays Trumpism: Syria in the Crosshairs

"Twenty-four hours after the alleged incident – with the United Nations still refusing to say whether there had been a gas attack, or, if so, who is responsible – the President of the United States does a complete turnaround, ditches a campaign promise, and takes us to the brink of a greatly expanded war in Syria." There’s a Good Chance Your Bank Is Committing a Major Crime Right Now

"You probably will be very surprised to learn who aided and abetted the drug operation: it was US banking giant Wachovia. After an investigation that took years, Wells Fargo, which now owns Wachovia, paid a $160 million fine to settle the case. You might also be surprised to hear that Wachovia’s fine wasn’t an isolated case. Citibank was caught laundering money for a Mexican drug kingpin in 2001. American Express Bank admitted to laundering $55 million in drug money in 2007. And the FBI accused Bank of America of helping a Mexican drug cartel hide money in 2012. You’ve probably never heard these stories before. The big banks pay a lot of money to keep it that way." Continue reading

Bill Bonner: Jailhouse humour

"We’re not going to let a little thing like forced labour spoil our Freedom Fest holiday. Anyway, it is only poor people who get caught up in the prisons’ slave market. So, we have nothing to worry about. We can hire a shyster lawyer when we need one. Besides, we like the Land of the Free. Which is to say, we appreciate hypocrisy. After all, it is the 'homage that vice pays to virtue'. Without it, virtue wouldn’t get any strokes at all. Free minds and free markets are virtues too. Nobody cares about them either. Not in America. We have the schools to shackle minds. And we have the feds to lock up, beat up, and tie up the markets." Continue reading

Congressman Calls To Ban U.S. Dollar After Senator’s Bitcoin Ban Idea

"Congressman Jared Polis is calling on the Treasury to ban physical dollars in response to Senator Manchin’s plea to ban Bitcoin. 'The exchange of dollar bills, including high denomination bills, is currently unregulated and has allowed users to participate in illicit activity, while also being highly subject to forgery, theft, and loss,' wrote Polis in a statement. To be sure, the Congressman is being cheeky. 'This is just a satirical version of Senator Manchin’s letter, meant to draw attention to the fact that BitCoins are not any more susceptible to the problems that the Senator points out than dollars,' said Spokesperson Scott Overland."
