Roger Waters backs Bulgarian protesters during performance of ‘The Wall’

"Red captions 'No f*cking way' and 'Ostavka' in Cyrillic — which means resignation in Bulgarian — flashed upon Waters’ famous Wall during the performance of the song 'Mother'. The slogans appeared right after Rogers sang the line 'Mother, should I trust the government' and were met with rounds of applause and shouts of 'Ostavka' by the crowd of over 40,000 people in Sofia’s national stadium. Thousands of Bulgarians have taken to the streets of the capital every evening since June 14 to protest against the three-month-old Socialists-backed cabinet of technocrats, which they see as corrupt and too easily swayed by shady business interests behind the scenes." John Kerry: Assad is the new Hitler because of chem. weapon use

"Secretary of State John Kerry today compared Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad to Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein as he said new lab tests proved that deadly sarin nerve gas was used to kill nearly 1,500 civilians last month. 'Bashar al-Assad now joins a list of Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein who have used these weapons in time of war,' Kerry told NBC's 'Face the Nation.' Kerry called the murderous attack an 'affront against the decency and sensibilities of the world.' 'So this case is building and this case will build.'" Continue reading

Two Algerians repatriated from Guantanamo: Pentagon

"Two long-held Algerian detainees at Guantanamo Bay have been returned to their homeland, the first such transfer since US President Barack Obama renewed his pledge to close the controversial jail. The Pentagon announced Thursday that Nabil Said Hadjarab, 34, and Mutia Sadiq Ahmad Sayyab, 36, were handed over to the government of Algeria, completing a process outlined last month by the United States. The US-run prison in Cuba, set up in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, still holds 164 detainees more than four years after Obama took office and first vowed to shut it down." Former Cheney aide demands Syria ‘exit strategy’ from Obama

"Mary Matalin, a Republican strategist and former advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney, on Sunday said that Americans had become “war wise” after the Iraq war and demanded that President Barack Obama produce an exit strategy before launching an attack on Syria. President George W. Bush and Matalin’s former boss, Vice President Dick Cheney, were criticized for not having a post-war plan after invading Iraq in 2003. Even after Iraq held democratic elections in 2005, Bush said in his State of the Union address that he would 'not set an artificial timetable.' for leaving. That same year, Vice President Dick Cheney argued that the Iraq insurgency was in its 'last throes.'" Continue reading

Rand Paul reminds Kerry of his famous anti-Vietnam war quote

"Paul pointed to Kerry’s 1971 testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where he asked: 'How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?' 'I would ask John Kerry, ‘How can you ask a man to be the first one to die for a mistake?’' Paul quipped. 'What I’ve told them is, I’m not sending my son, your son or anybody else’s son to fight for stalemate. You know, when we fight, we fight when we have to. But I see things in a very personal basis.' 'You know, I see a young John Kerry who went to war and wish he remembered more of how awful war is.'" Continue reading

John Kerry urges Syria attack based on blood and hair samples

"The United States has proof sarin gas was used in a Damascus attack, Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday, as he urged Congress to vote for military action against the Syrian regime. Hair and blood samples given to the United States from emergency workers on the scene of last month’s attack in the Syrian capital have showed signs of the powerful sarin nerve gas, Kerry told NBC and CNN television. 'In the last 24 hours, we have learned through samples that were provided to the United States and that have now been tested from first responders in East Damascus, (that) hair samples and blood samples have tested positive for signatures of sarin,' Kerry told NBC’s Meet the Press." Crash Course: A Guide To 30 Years Of U.S. Military Strikes Against Other Nations

"A look at major U.S. military strikes as ordered by the last five U.S. presidents and the degree of international support behind the actions. RONALD REAGAN: Beirut (1982-83): U.S. troops deployed to Lebanon as part of a three-nation peacekeeping force. Reagan ordered limited airstrikes, with France, to retaliate for 1983 bombing on military barracks that killed 299 U.S. and French troops. Grenada (1983): Invasion by an estimated 7,000 U.S. troops and 300 Organization of American States troops after a government coup; was condemned by Britain and the U.N. but supported by six Caribbean island nations that said it was justified under the OAS charter. Libya (1986): [..] " Continue reading

Hollande Undeterred By UK: “France Will Participate. It Is Ready” For Syria

"After France refused to join the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, but was quickly aided by the US in the military intervention against Islamist militants in Mali earlier this year, Hollande is vehement of the need to 'punish' Damascus, 'France will participate. It is ready.' Sounds like a resounding 'we're in,' right? It seems Hollande is dead set on lower French unemployment... by making every jobless person a soldier in Syria (packing at least one backup white flag of surrender). But, don't get too excited since, with lukewarm public support, Hollande has said he will summon the French parliament to vote on the debate... on September 4th." Continue reading

Paul Craig Roberts: Will Obama Doom Himself As A War Criminal

"Recently, the Turkish government shot down in the streets more of its own people–peaceful protesters, not imported mercenaries trying to overthrow the Turkish government–than were killed in the alleged use of chemical weapons by Assad. No country regards the criminal states of Turkey and Israel as cover for a war crime. If Obama is pushed by Susan Rice and the evil neocons, who are strongly allied with Israel, into going it alone and conducting a military strike on Syria, Obama will have made himself an unambiguous War Criminal under the Nuremberg Standard created by the US Government. Unprovoked military aggression is a war crime under international law." Continue reading
