Amateur fetish porn is jumping into the Bitcoin game

"It’s a bit like Facebook for fetishes. Through March 1, Master Fet and Gimp Man are allowing performers to collect on 100 percent of the site’s revenue. 'We believe bitcoins, and digital currency in general, holds great promise to innovate not only the adult industry, but perhaps the way the world understands and uses currency as a whole,' he said, adding that certain niches like erotic hypnosis and sleeping fetish are currently outlawed by Visa and Mastercard." Overstock CEO: money ’too important to leave to government officials’

"Overstock.com Inc., an online discount retailer, is preparing to accept the virtual currency bitcoin as payment in the second half of 2014, according to Chief Executive and Chairman Patrick Byrne. The news was first reported by the website newsBTC, and confirmed in a Thursday morning phone interview with Byrne. The project is in an early stage, with no decision yet on whether Overstock.com would work with bitcoin companies to allow bitcoin payments or create its own system. A team of six to 12 people is expected to work on bitcoin payments at the company, said Byrne." Continue reading

Report Suggests NSA Engaged In Bank Account Manipulation

"Governments should not use their offensive cyber capabilities to change the amounts held in financial accounts or otherwise manipulate the financial system.' While there have been plenty of reports about the US running hundreds of offensive cyberattacks on others, outside of things like Stuxnet, not many have been directly identified. And I'm unaware of any claims suggesting attempts to 'manipulate the financial system' of any particular country and/or to 'change the amounts held in financial accounts.' It seems a bit odd to come out of the blue like that, and certainly suggests that this particular bullet point likely came as a result of a rather specific thing that came up during the task force's review. " Continue reading

U.S. Treasury cautions Bitcoin businesses on legal duties

"Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) has sent 'industry outreach' letters to about a dozen firms, regarding potential anti-money laundering compliance obligations related to Bitcoin businesses, FinCEN spokesman Steve Hudak told Thomson Reuters' regulatory information service Compliance Complete. The letters have had a 'chilling effect' on Bitcoin businesses, which are intimidated by the threat of civil and criminal sanctions for non-compliance, said Jon Matonis, executive director of the Bitcoin Foundation, an advocacy group. The firms, he said, may effectively be 'put out of business in an extrajudicial manner.'" Continue reading

Dark money: only 35 Bitcoin dealers are compliant with US law

"In the US, the virtual currency is subject to money transmitter laws at the federal level and in 47 states. The rules are not always clear, however, because they are written for money transmission services, not virtual currencies. The regulations are also in flux. New York is considering a special 'BitLicense' for virtual currency firms, for example. As a result, many Bitcoin companies have not registered at either the state or federal level. Only 35 Bitcoin companies have registered with FinCEN, the bureau of the US Treasury Department that has taken the lead on Bitcoin regulation, and the agency has reached out to several dozen more that it believes need to register." Money for Nothing: Inside the Federal Reserve (2013)

"Nearly 100 years after its creation, the power of the U.S. Federal Reserve has never been greater. Markets and governments around the world hold their breath in anticipation of the Fed Chairman's every word. Yet the average person knows very little about the most powerful - and least understood - financial institution on earth. Money For Nothing is the first film to take viewers inside the Fed and reveal the impact of Fed policies - past, present, and future - on our lives. Join current and former Fed officials as they debate the critics, and each other, about the decisions that helped lead the global financial system to the brink of collapse in 2008. And why we might be headed there again." Continue reading

How the Paper Money Experiment Will End

"We are now in a situation that looks like a dead end for the paper money system. After the last cycle, governments have bailed out malinvestments in the private sector and boosted their public welfare spending. Deficits and debts skyrocketed. Central banks printed money to buy public debts (or accept them as collateral in loans to the banking system) in unprecedented amounts. Will money printing be a constant with interest rates close to zero until people lose their confidence in the paper currencies? Can the paper money system be maintained or will we necessarily get a hyperinflation sooner or later? There are at least seven possibilities." Continue reading

New Barbados currency ‘more secure’ [May 2013]

"Producers of fake Barbados money should not be smiling all the way to the bank anytime soon. On the heels of what it said was 'an increase in counterfeit activity in 2012', the Central Bank of Barbados has unveiled the island’s first new banknotes in 40 years. Central Bank of Barbados officials and representatives from British-based currency printer De La Rue officially introduced the new notes this morning at the Grande Salle, Tom Adams Financial Centre, saying they carried advanced security features within a modern design that was in the making for the last three years."
