Obama’s Tax Crackdown to Target Foreigners’ Accounts in US Banks

"The Obama administration may soon ask Congress for the power to require more disclosure by U.S. banks of information about foreign clients' accounts to those clients' home governments, as part of a crackdown on tax evasion, sources said. The information-sharing effort stems from a fight by the Treasury Department against offshore tax evasion under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, or FATCA, adopted in 2010 and set to begin taking effect at the end of 2013. At the heart of FATCA is a law requiring more disclosure by non-U.S. banks of information about Americans' accounts to the Internal Revenue Service." Continue reading

US Still ‘Warning’ Antigua That It Better Not Set Up Piracy Hub, Even As WTO Gives Approval

"The United States warned Antigua and Barbuda on Monday not to retaliate against U.S. restrictions on Internet gambling by suspending American copyrights or patents, a move it said would authorize the 'theft' of intellectual property like movies and music. 'The United States has urged Antigua to consider solutions that would benefit its broader economy. However, Antigua has repeatedly stymied these negotiations with certain unrealistic demands,' said Nkenge Harmon, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Trade Representative's office." Continue reading

UN Attacks Small Gold Miners With New Mercury Treaty – Higher Prices Seen

"The United Nations is once again making it harder for poor people to earn a living. In this case it is the small gold miners that use mercury to help them sift for gold. While the UN provides the requisite disclaimers having to do with finding 'alternatives' to mercury for small miners, we wonder how much they'll cost. Additionally, we note this latest attack on people's ability to make a living excludes Big Pharma: Mercury will continue to find its way into vaccines because there are currently 'no mercury-free alternatives.' Amazing, isn't it, the concern that the UN shows for multi-billion dollar corporations?" Continue reading

Elite Description Problem – Why the System Needs a Full Explanation

"The reason to create the modern nation-state is because the top power elites hide behind it, controlling society and economics and their will via mercantilism, the secret exercise of public rule to abet private interests. Modern citizens work for THEM even though they don't realize it. And they are not supposed to realize it. If we project this nation-state rule far enough, we begin to see the emergence of true neo-feudalism where a tiny group of globally recognized leaders run the world." Continue reading

Russia Says World Is Nearing Currency War as Europe Joins

"The alert from the country that chairs the Group of 20 came as Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker complained of a 'dangerously high' euro. The push for weaker currencies is being driven by a need to find new sources of economic growth as monetary and fiscal policies run out of room. The risk is as each country tries to boost exports, it hurts the competitiveness of other economies and provokes retaliation. The skirmish may lead to a clash of G-20 finance ministers and central banks when they meet next month in Moscow, three months after reiterating their 2009 pledge to 'refrain from competitive devaluation of currencies.'" Paul Craig Roberts: Attack On Sovereignty

"Those concerned about 'The New World Order' speak as if the United States is coming under the control of an outside conspiratorial force. In fact, it is the US that is the New World Order. That is what the American unipolar world, about which China, Russia, and Iran complain, is all about. Washington has demonstrated that it has no respect for its own laws and Constitution, much less any respect for international law and the law and sovereignty of other countries. All that counts is Washington’s will as the pursuit of hegemony moves Washington closer to becoming a world dictator." Continue reading

Germany Plans to Deploy Armed Drones

"Bowing to pressure from the German armed forces, the Bundeswehr, the federal government in Berlin is preparing to deploy armed, unmanned drones in foreign conflicts. In an answer to an official query made by the far-left Left Party, the German government wrote that its experience in foreign combat operations has made it clear that reconnaissance vehicles must be armed 'in order to provide protection against sudden and serious changes in the situation.' It went on to say that the weapons boost safety and security through 'credible deterrence,' pointing to the 'Predator' drones used by the United States as a possible model." Continue reading

Euromoney Endorses Bank of Israel Governor for Fed Chairman

"Euromoney, which chose outgoing Governor of the Bank of Israel Prof. Stanley Fischer as 'Central Bank Governor of the Year in 2010,' calls for him to be appointed the next Chairman of the US Federal Reserve. EPJ was first to suggest that Fischer may be considered for the Fed post, when Bernanke's term ends in January 2014. Euromoney explains how inflationist Fischer was as Bank of Israel's top man. Under Fischer's watch in Israel, inflation has been comparatively very strong. Indeed, in 2011, it was as high as 4.3%, more than twice the Fed's current target rate." Continue reading
