NYC Sued Over NYPD Cruiser Ramming Dirt Bike, Getting Caught On Camera

"Gonzalez was allegedly riding a dirt bike with no license plate and no helmet when Officer McClain spotted him and swerved towards his bike. Knocked onto the sidewalk, Gonzalez fled on foot and then jumped on the back of Fernandez's dirt bike, also unregistered. The officer chased them in his cruiser before slamming into the back of them. Gonzalez broke his leg in the collision. He faces charges of resisting arrest and reckless endangerment when his trial begins Mar. 13 in Bronx Criminal Court." Continue reading

Female Motorist Faces Down California Highway Patrol

"They threatened to arrest the woman numerous times as well as screamed at her in rage and made her get out of her vehicle and sit on the cement. They also were not familiar with CVC 40502(b). In addition, the cops did not like being filmed. Within literally 40 seconds of the supervisor arriving on the scene, the unhinged boy-in-blue lost complete control and began screaming at the woman in a fury. As the shortened-version video reveals, after detaining the driver for nearly 40 minutes while arguing, shouting at and threatening her, the two jackboot cops finally gave in and gave her the County Seat. That didn't have to be so difficult now, did it?" Continue reading

I Hate Government Street Sweepers

"Years ago, before the militarization on the police state and the installment of omnipotent confiscatory governments in America's cities, these things were 'make work' for the government employees and unions. In the era of No Freedom, they have become revenue centers for municipalities. Cities where parking is scarce, like Long Beach, conduct scheming ticket sweeps because people have no where else to park, and the city adds $9M per year to the city coffers by pulling off this extortion tactic. Long Beach's Dictatorial Staff even went so far to suggest the use of 'automated license plate recognition technology' on its convoy of street sweepers." Continue reading

The Drug Warriors Cashing In on Pot Prohibition

"When eight former DEA chiefs signed a letter to US Attorney General Eric Holder earlier this month, demanding that the feds crack down on Washington and Colorado, there was more than just drug-war ideology at stake. Two of the elder drug warriors, Peter Bensinger (DEA chief, 1976–1981) and Robert DuPont (White House drug chief, 1973–1977), run a corporate drug-testing business. Their company, Bensinger, DuPont & Associates, holds the pee stick for some 10 million employees around the US, including Kraft Foods, American Airlines, Johnson & Johnson, the Federal Aviation Administration and even the Justice Department itself." Florida court rules threats on Facebook can be prosecuted

"In an apparent first in Florida law, a state appeals court ruled Monday that posting threats on one’s personal Facebook page can be prosecuted under state law. The 1st District Court of Appeal decided in a criminal case that a Facebook post could be considered a 'sending' for the purposes of the 'sending written threats to kill or do bodily harm' law, a second-degree felony." New York Cops Arrest Artist Who Posted Embarrassing ‘NYPD Drone’ Posters [2012]

"Back in mid-September, the NYPD (and the city of NY) was embarrassed by the work of an artist who managed to install 100 posters in pay phone kiosks that appeared to show the city was using armed drones to control crime. Last week, police finally arrested Essam Attia, the man they believe was at the center of the campaign. Mr. Attia has been charged with 56 counts of possession of a forged instrument — a fairly serious crime for someone who put up some posters that he claims were meant to spark a conversation about the troubling use of drones both domestically and abroad." Bloomberg on NYC drone program vs. street cameras: ‘What’s the difference?’

"New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in an interview on Friday that the city may turn to the use of a drone program for public safety monitoring. According to CBS New York, the mayor believes that the thousands of surveillance cameras already mounted all around the city are not enough, but that a program of unmanned surveillance drones would not be a significant incursion into resident’s privacy. 'What’s the difference whether the drone is up in the air or on a building?' the mayor asked. 'I have trouble making the distinction.'" Continue reading

Let Us Go A-Wassell-ing

"Mr. Wassell has become rapidly and widely known as 'The First Victim' of Guano's-sorry, Cuomo's unconstitutional SAFE Act. I was pleased to read in the Buffalo News that friends of freedom and of the Wassells 'crowded' the courtroom. We have historical precedence for such a tactic. In 1786 and 1787, patriots sick of the State's depredations and tyranny surrounded courthouses in Massachusetts to prevent courts from sitting since each time they did, more poor farmers lost their land to rich and corrupt rulers. That same tactic can work today." Continue reading

NYPD officers testify stop-and-frisk program motivated by quotas and race

"The New York police department’s controversial stop-and-frisk program is being driven by a high-pressure quota system imposed upon lower-ranking officers by their supervisors, two NYPD officers testified in court this week. The claims were made as part of a landmark class action lawsuit that seeks to prove that the nation’s largest police department has demonstrated a widespread and systemic pattern of unconstitutional stops that disproportionately target minorities. The trial represents a historic challenge to the legacies of NYPD commissioner Ray Kelly and mayor Michael Bloomberg, who have both vocally supported stop-and-frisk." Continue reading
