2 Miami police officers arrested on ID- theft, tax-refund charges

"Malinsky Bazile, a young Miami police officer, pocketed about $140,000 over the past two years — but not in salary for his patrol duties, authorities say. While on duty, Bazile ran the names of more than 1,000 people in the state driver’s license database, according to a criminal complaint. Then he took their personal information and filed bogus federal income-tax returns, all to score stolen refunds. Bazile and fellow officer Vital Frederick, separately accused of tapping into the same database, were both arrested Thursday." Continue reading

Man spends 2 years forgotten about in solitary after DWI arrest

"A New Mexico man who said he was forced to pull his own tooth while in solitary confinement because he was denied access to a dentist has been awarded $22 million due to inhumane treatment by New Mexico's Dona Ana County Jail. Stephen Slevin was arrested in August of 2005 for driving while intoxicated, then thrown in jail for two years. He was in solitary at Dona Ana County Jail for his entire sentence and basically forgotten about and never given a trial, he told NBC station KOB.com Tuesday night." Continue reading

Undercover agent sneaks past TSA at Newark Airport with ‘bomb’ in pants

"Despite undergoing a pat-down search, a federal agent was able to sneak past Transportation Security Administration agents at Newark Airport last month with a simulated explosive device in his pant, an unnamed source told The New York Post. 'This episode once again demonstrates how Newark Airport is the Ground Zero of TSA failures,' the source reportedly said. The TSA did not confirm whether the incident took place, telling the Post that it 'regularly conducts covert testing' of security and does not disclose details about those operations." Massachusetts cops reinstated with back pay after testing positive for cocaine

"Officers Ronnie Jones, George Downing, Shawn Harris, Richard Beckers, Jacqueline McGowan and Walter Washington each had very different explanations as to why there might have been cocaine detected in their hair follicles, yet all were summarily fired in the last decade. The board’s ruling reinstates them to their jobs with back pay dating to October 2010. Reasons for the presence of cocaine given by officers included a recent prescription of lidocaine, living near a crackhead, keeping drug evidence in the same pocket as food and accidental physical contact after mistaking the drug for powder from a doughnut." Milwaukee police officer convicted of stealing money while responding to burglary

"A Milwaukee police officer has been fired after his conviction for stealing cash from a convenience store where he had responded to investigate a burglary. According to the criminal complaint, the owner of Hopkins Food Mart at N. 46th St. and Hopkins Ave. had reported a burglary, and Howell came to take a report. The owner showed Howell a drawer with cash that was not taken during the burglary, and Howell later went back to the drawer and took some of the money. Charges Dropped Against Innocent Man: Video Evidence Shows Officers Planted Drugs On Him

"A man who claims a police officer planted drugs on him will have the charges dismissed one day before his case was set to go to trial. But the DeKalb County Solicitor General’s Office said the dismissal has nothing to do with a surveillance video Alphonzo Eleby said proves the officer set him up. His attorney said surveillance video from the location shows the officer call the officer guarding Eleby over to the SUV he had been searching. As she searches the vehicle, Zenobia Waters said the video shows the officer circle back to her client and toss marijuana next to him. She said the officer then picks the drugs up and repositions them." Continue reading

Judge: Bozeman police intentionally erased audio in excessive force case

"A judge has found Bozeman police intentionally erased a portion of an audio recording made during a welfare check on a man who claims officers used excessive force against him. Soheil Jesse Verdi claims the officers caused him to fall and injure his skull when they used a stun gun against him in 2007. One of the officers was wearing a microphone. Attorneys for Verdi said there is a missing audio segment. U.S. District Judge Richard Anderson agreed with Verdi in a ruling last month the segment was intentionally erased." Continue reading

Will Grigg: The Stalinist in the White House

"Until the filibuster staged by Senator Paul – who, despite his plentiful shortcomings, has proven that he has learned much from his heroic father – no Senate Republican had rejected the Stalinist premise that the President can order the summary execution of U.S. citizens. What about the Professional Left – the people who, like then-Senator Obama, were so agitated over the Bush administration’s crimes against the Bill of Rights? They’re too busy debating such weighty matters as the proper honorific by which to address the Dear Leader, or helping the Southern Poverty Law Center draw up 'kill lists' of domestic 'extremists.'" "Michigan’s Senate unanimously passed legislation to protect its citizens – and, we’ll presume, any American refugee who flees to the Mitten State – from Obummer’s 'legalized' kidnapping and 'indefinite detention,' a.k.a., the NDAA. 'No member of the Michigan national guard on active state service shall aid an agency of the armed forces of the United States in any investigation, prosecution, or detention of any person pursuant to section 1021 of the national defense authorization act for fiscal year 2012.' Obummer’s grab for such dictatorial power has suffered a slew of defeats lately in Montana, Indiana, Colorado and Arizona." Continue reading
