Cops lock down Bronx elementary school after gun rumor sparked by talk about toy

"A Bronx school went into lockdown this morning after a campus aide overheard a student talking about his gun -- a toy gun it turned out, officials said. The lockdown was called off after an hour and no weapon was found at PS 4, on Fulton Avenue and East 174th Street, officials said. School officials didn’t want to take any chances so they closed down campus, as heavily armed police swarmed PS 4 to search for that student. 'It's nerve racking. There are police officers here with assault rifles and there are helicopters flying around. It's really scary out here.'" Continue reading

Woman accuses NYPD of handcuffing 7-year-old son for 10 hours

"A New York City woman has threatened to sue the local police department for $250 million for allegedly handcuffing her 7-year-old son and accusing him of beating up another child over $5. According to Frances Mendez, she found her son, Wilson Reyes, cuffed to a wall at 14th Precinct headquarters, after being mistakenly accused of stealing the money. Mendez’s lawyer said in a statement on Monday that the incident occurred last month, when police took the boy out of class and held him in a room at his school for four hours before taking him to the precinct for another six hours, questioning him and charging him with robbery." A Swedish Police Taskforce Raided a Bunch of Teenagers Playing Call of Duty

"The ten-man team raided the apartment to find a group of teenagers in the midst of murder and destruction, yes, but also enjoying just another friendly night in playing Call of Duty. After being forced outside by what must have essentially been a SWAT team, the boys were able to explain that the gunshots were entirely virtual and the cries for help merely came when the character of one of the boys (let's call him Sven) was shot several times and left lying on the floor. Sven's alter ego had, presumably, been put out of its misery by the time the police arrived. Eventually, the police admitted the mistake and left without filing any charges." Continue reading

Oklahoma Woman Seeks Medical Treatment, Is Jailed Instead, Dies

"Hospital staff reported that Russell wouldn't cooperate and was in too much pain to even lie down, so they asked a Paul's Valley police officer to assist. And that's when Russell's medical emergency morphed into a drug bust. The police officer found two prescription pills on her for which she did not have a prescription, so she was arrested and jailed on drug possession charges. She was found unresponsive in her cell less than two hours later. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has cleared the jail staff of any criminal wrongdoing." Continue reading

NYC pays $75K settlement to Manhattan couple arrested for dancing in subway

"Stern, a dentist, and Hess, a film prop master, had just left Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night’s Swing when they encountered a steel-drum player on a nearly empty platform in the Columbus Circle subway station and began to boogie. Two cops told them their happy feet weren’t allowed and hauled them off after Stern could produce only a credit card, which did bear a picture of her, as identification. Stern said she and Hess were happy with the settlement but believes that her arrest, and the legal case that ensued, could have been avoided." Continue reading

"Twitter said Monday that worldwide requests from governments about its users rose nearly 20 percent in second half of 2012 as it sought to raise awareness about 'invasive' actions. Homeland Security buys 7000 full-auto assault rifles, calls them ‘personal defense weapons’

"Keep in mind that President Obama is on the record saying, 'AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals; that they belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities.' But it seems he really means they don't belong on the streets of our cities unless they are in the hands of homeland security enforcers, in which case they can be FULL-AUTO assault weapons. The DHS bid for 7,000 full-auto assault weapons is found by clicking here. " Continue reading
