The gulf coast oil spill was and is a horrible disaster with consequences that will last for years to come. But when one looks at the "big picture", the oil spill is dwarfed by the tsunami of red ink that promises to suck everyone into its wake. The life boats are well within our reach - they are located right within in our own states.
A Republican majority in Congress is not likely to significantly change the course of our government. Simple answers to our problems do present themselves. They are not easy, but simple. It's time to choose ourselves by exercising our sovereign rights as individuals and states.
Most people are currently focused on the November elections; particularly those who are hoping to reverse the direction of government. Focusing on winning a Republican majority in Congress is not likely to provide the answers people are looking for.
An "emergency jobs bill" was passed by the House on August 10. Now some advocacy groups and Democrats are crying foul because Food Stamp program funds were used to pay for it.
