Cop Gets Six Months For Killing Mackala Ross and Delores Epps

"Former Memphis police officer Alex Beard was speeding to a call with no siren when he rammed into a car, killing 13-year-old Mackala Ross and her mother, Delores Epps, age 53. Mackala’s father, Michael Ross, was severely injured, but survived the crash. This week the former officer was offered a plea deal by prosecutors: six months in jail. Mr. Ross said the sentence was like a 'slap in my face.' The prosecutor said 'this was the best that could be done.' Hmm. Insane 9/11 Homework Assignment Highlights Trauma-based Education

"A homework assignment on the anniversary of 9/11 is the source of controversy in Texas after the instructions asked 7th grade students to write a farewell letter as if they were about to die in the attack. A language arts teacher at Fairview Junior High in Alvin, Texas asked students to pretend they were trapped in one of the towers or planes, then asking who they would write a letter to if they knew they were going to die. Teen arrested for using app to “shoot” his classmates with a cellphone

"Police arrested a 15-year-old high-schooler Thursday in Louisiana for 'terrorizing' his classmates with a phone app that edits video to make them appear as though they are being gunned down. Terrebonne Parish sheriff’s Capt. Dawn Foret told the Lafourche Daily Comet that the H.L. Bourgeois High School student, used a phone app called 'The Real Strike' to superimpose video game style guns on video from an iPhone and similar devices. The app allows a user to virtually 'shoot' things in front of the camera. The boy is charged with terrorizing and interfering in the operation of a school." Continue reading →

NYPD shoot at man with finger gun, hit elderly woman with walker, others

"Two bystanders were shot by New York police officers who were trying to subdue what NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly called 'an emotionally disturbed man.' 'This individual was blocking traffic and appeared to be attempting to be hit by cars when a police officer on foot patrol attempted to take him into custody in the intersection,' Com. Kelly said. At that time, according to a witness who spoke toThe Daily News, the unidentified man started 'pretending that he had a gun' and 'aimed it at the cops.' The cops fired three shots, none of which hit the suspect. However, an unidentified 54-year-old woman in a walker was struck in the right leg, and a 35-year-old woman was grazed in the buttocks." Charlotte police kill man running to them for help

"Police in North Carolina shot and killed a man running toward them Saturday morning -- but he may have just been looking for help after a car wreck. Officers responded to a 'breaking and entering' 911 call at a home in Charlotte. The homeowner told dispatchers that a man had been knocking on her door repeatedly. Police say that when they got to the scene, a man matching the caller's description ran toward them. One of the officers fired his stun gun, but it was 'unsuccessful.' Another officer then opened fire, police said. Jonathan Ferrell died at the scene. He was shot several times. He was unarmed. Cop convicted for selling machine guns

"A former Basel police detective received a ten-month suspended jail sentence on Monday for using his position to acquire and re-sell illegal machine guns, firearms, hand grenades and other accessories. The 51-year-old, who worked for the cantonal police force for 20 years, was authorized to order guns and other weapons, according to an online report from 20 Minutes newspaper. However, he took advantage of his position to order firearms, which he paid for with his own money then resold to others, the newspaper reported. He admitted in the Basel criminal court to selling to a Zurich friend illegal weapons, including Heckler & Koch MP5 machine guns with silencers and other guns." Continue reading →

"A new belt-fed AR-15 military-style assault rifle can fire rounds as fast as fully-automatic machine guns — and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) says that a legal loophole means that the gun is perfectly legal in the United States. CNN reported this week that Texas-based Slide Fire’s new SFS BFR semiautomatic rifle would be available this fall for $6,000. The weapon can potentially hold thousands of rounds of ammunition because it is fed by a belt instead of a traditional magazine. First Syria rebels armed and trained by CIA ‘on way to battlefield’

"The first cell of Syrian rebels trained and armed by the CIA is making its way to the battlefield, President Barack Obama has reportedly told senators. During a meeting at the White House, the president assured Senator John McCain that after months of delay the US was meeting its commitment to back moderate elements of the opposition. Mr Obama said that a 50-man cell, believed to have been trained by US special forces in Jordan, was making its way across the border into Syria, according to the New York Times. The deployment of the rebel unit seems to be the first tangible measure of support since Mr Obama announced in June that the US would begin providing the opposition with small arms."
