Veteran’s Guns Confiscated After Forced ‘Psychiatric Evaluation’

"On February 5, Schmecker’s hospital primary care doctor called and heard a message on Schmecker’s answer machine that 'sounded peculiar,' prompting him to contact the local police and urge them to visit Schmecker to perform a 'wellness check'. 'The police came to my home, and, without any justification whatsoever, hauled me away for a psychiatric evaluation at a local hospital. I submitted to their forceful insistence under duress and fear of arrest or worse. I wasn’t arrested, no crime was committed nor any threats were made to myself or others,' Schmecker told Survive and Thrive’s George Hemminger. 'They confiscated my guns and pistol permit.'" This day in history

"In 1776, the Society for the Protection of Loyal Colonists (SPLC) issued a report warning of the rise of the so-called 'Patriot Movement' in the American colonies. SPLC spokesman Marcus Potok announced his organization had been monitoring the takeover of royal legislatures, militias, and town councils by anti-government extremists. 'Dangerous men such as John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, and Benjamin Franklin have stoked the fires of sedition and radicalism among the King's subjects. As a result, illegal militias have seen explosive growth, fueled by a furious reaction to much-needed revenue laws duly enacted under the authority of the King.'" Continue reading

Armed protesters show up to counter Indianapolis gun control rally

"A group participating in the 'National Day to Demand Action' to end gun violence in Indianapolis this morning faced a counter-protest from gun rights advocates, who brought their loaded firearms with them. The group Moms Demand Action held the rally outside the Indiana Statehouse on Thursday to call for an assault weapons ban, restrictions on magazine sizes, and an end to the so-called gun show loophole. A member of the organization told Think Progress she was unsettled by the presence of armed counter-protesters, who were from a group calling itself Indiana Moms Against Gun Control." Backfire on Obama — Gun Control

"How serious are Americans about buying guns? Enough to apply for a background check to buy one. How many Americans have applied for a background check since the day Obama was inaugurated? Go on. Guess. The answer: over 70 million. Think about this. Over 70 million adult Americans went to the trouble of identifying themselves as gun owners. This sends a message to Congress: 'Don’t mess with our guns.' This sends a message to gun control advocates: 'You haven’t got the votes.' Talk about futility. Gun controllers say that they represent the true feelings of Americans on guns. But where is their evidence?" Continue reading

Gun Control in Connecticut Is a Bonanza for Gun Sellers Outside of Connecticut.

"This sends a message to the world outside of New York, Illinois, Connecticut, and California: buy while you still can. Buy at gun shows. Pay a little more. Get off your duff. Is gun control coming? No. Then why buy? Because newcomers think gun control is coming. Prices will go up. The mania will spread. This is not a bubble market. This is the new normal. The liberals want gun control. They are not going to get it in heartland America. What they are getting is the opposite of what they say they want: a new dedication to buy guns and ammo is spreading like a prairie fire across the nation." Continue reading

Texas vs. California

"I’ve been pointing out the differences between California stagnation and Texas prosperity for quite some time. And since California voters approved a new 13.3 percent top tax rate last November, I expect the gap to become even wider. Simply stated, California is the France of America and Texas is the Cayman Islands of America. So it’s understandable that the Governor of Texas is telling employers in California that his state has a better climate for job creation. Texas is clearly doing better on jobs, and it’s easy to avoid higher taxes when you obey Mitchell’s Golden Rule and restrain the burden of government spending." Continue reading

Illinois Ranked Last In Personal Freedoms, New Hampshire #4

"We’re ranked #45 overall for freedom, and dead last for personal freedoms. We’ve been at the bottom of that list since 2007. The reasons? It’s hard to get high and/or carry a gun around here. Illinois also has harsh asset forfeiture laws, which put the burden of proof on property owners and grant 90 percent of proceeds from seized property to law enforcement. The freest state, according to the study, is North Dakota, which has low taxes and loose gun laws. The freest state, according to the study, is North Dakota, which has low taxes and loose gun laws. New Hampshire’s motto is 'Live Free or Die' (and indeed, New Hampshire ranked #4 in the survey)." Continue reading

Unhappy about new limits, gun makers urged to move to New Hampshire

"Firearms manufacturers upset over newly restrictive gun laws and proposals in their home states are getting a message from other places: Move here, where the climate is favorable to your products, and so are the tax codes. When the debate over gun laws reignited after the mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., in December, critics of proposals to toughen state laws cautioned that gun manufacturers could move and take local jobs with them. And indeed, now lawmakers and residents in a few states are using restrictions on guns recently passed and proposed elsewhere as an opportunity to attract affected businesses." Continue reading

Connecticut’s Gun Control: A Rush To Pass Laws That Couldn’t Have Prevented Tragedy

"The grab bag (PDF) of background checks, gun, ammunition and magazine restrictions, limitations on eligibility to own firearms and a new registry of 'weapon offenders' inconveniences people who had nothing to do with the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, and certainly would have had no impact on Adam Lanza's ability to commit that crime. But don't think anybody will get to point that out in a public hearing; the legislation is being sent directly to a vote through an emergency procedure that allows for no stops on the way."
