"In a slightly bizarre announcement today, PayPal is debuting PayPal Galactic, an initiative to own universal payments and commerce in space. Yes, outer space. PayPal is looking to address and solve the problems of what the standard currency looks like in a cash-free interplanetary society, and how banking, risk and fraud management systems will adapt to this. The company says that there is already the need for a galactic payment system. Silver found to be key weapon in fight against antibiotics resistance

"Silver may be a key weapon in the fight against drug-resistant bacteria, according to Boston University scientists. A team of researchers lead by biomedical engineer James Collins, say adding silver to antibiotics can make them up to 1,000 times more effective, especially when it comes to combating Gram-negative bacteria — one of the hardest pathogens to kill. The findings, published in the journal Science Translational Medicine, comes only weeks after Britain’s top doctor, Sally Davies, began its media campaign to warn about the rise of drug-resistant superbugs, which she considers a risk for humankind of 'apocalyptic consequences.'" Study links genetically modified grain to stomach inflammation in pigs

"Pigs fed a diet of only genetically modified grain showed markedly higher stomach inflammation than pigs who dined on conventional feed, according to a new study by a team of Australian scientists and U.S. researchers. those pigs that ate the GM diet had a higher rate of severe stomach inflammation – 32 percent of GM-fed pigs compared to 12 percent of non-GM-fed pigs. The inflammation was worse in GM-fed males compared to non-GM fed males by a factor of 4.0. Critics have argued for years that the DNA changes made to the transgenic plants engineer novel proteins that can be causing the digestive problems in animals and possibly in humans." ‘The worst case of scientific censorship since the church banned Copernicus’

"The outlawing of drugs such as cannabis, magic mushrooms and other psychoactive substances amounts to scientific censorship and is hampering research into potentially important medicinal uses, leading scientists argued on Wednesday. Laws and international conventions dating back to the 1960s have set back research in key areas such as consciousness by decades, they argued. 'The laws have never been updated despite scientific advances and growing evidence that many of these drugs are relatively safe. Hands-free cell phone devices still pose driving risk: study

"Speech-to-text devices in new cars fail to overcome the well-known perils of hands-on texting while driving, a US study published Wednesday suggests. While the research is ongoing, early findings suggest that sending texts with a hands-free voice recognition system — a feature in many new vehicles — was more distracting than listening to the radio or conversing with passengers. The 12 men and 20 women who participated in the study ranged in age from 18 to 33. All had clean driving records — and all confessed to regularly using their cell phones while driving." Marijuana: The Next Diabetes Drug?

"Toking up may help marijuana users to stay slim and lower their risk of developing diabetes, according to the latest study, which suggests that cannabis compounds may help in controlling blood sugar. The new research, which was published in the American Journal of Medicine, is not the first to find that the drug has a two-faced relationship to weight. Three prior studies have shown that marijuana users are less likely to be obese, have a lower risk for diabetes and have lower body-mass-index measurements. The research paper, which hasn’t yet undergone peer review, seems to confirm both the existence of cold fusion, and its potency: The cold fusion device being tested has roughly 10,000 times the energy density and 1,000 times the power density of gasoline.
