The Relentless Market for “Saturday Night Specials”

"The phrase 'Saturday night special' used to be applied to cheap handguns available to gangs. These days, the gangs have Uzis. But I am sure that low-budget criminals still buy Saturday night specials. About 30 years ago, I applied the phrase to describe the microcomputer. I said that this would shift power away from the federal government. It would provide the common man with a tool of resistance. The American government worries about its lack of gun control: the decentralization of power. But that is nothing when compared to the threat of Android." Continue reading

House Democrat proposes police registration for neighborhood watchmen

"Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) said Wednesday that she would soon introduce legislation that would cut federal funding to any state that doesn't require neighborhood watch programs to register with police. 'We will … decrease the incidence of gun violence resulting from vigilantes by reducing by 20 percent the funds that would otherwise be allocated … to any state that does not require local neighborhood watch programs to be registered with a local [law] enforcement agency,' Jackson Lee said on the House floor. She said her bill would also use the threat of less federal money to entice states to change their 'stand your ground' laws." Continue reading

Unintended Consequence: Colorado’s Gun Control Law Kills Gun Buy-Back Program.

"The group wanted citizens to come down and sell their guns, cheap, to the group. Well, under the July 1 gun control law, the group cannot pay for any guns. It’s not licensed. To go through with the plan, the group must find a licensed gun dealer to host the event. Then the people with guns to sell must come to the gun dealer and sell them. Then the group can legally buy them — after the mandatory background checks, purchase by purchase. The local police chief called off the event. It’s illegal." Continue reading

States with Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine Laws

"With all of the talk about 'Stand Your Ground' laws and self-defense in the 'media' lately, I thought that it would be a good idea to take a look at which U.S. states have those laws in place and the definition of what the law is, without all of the media hype." Continue reading

Dumb ALEC Runs for Cover on “Stand Your Ground.”

"ALEC is the American Legislative Exchange Council. It is a little-known conservative think tank. It is the source of the 'stand your ground' laws. It is now running for cover. Bill Gates’s foundation says it will not send money any longer. So has McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, and Kraft Foods. This reveals what ALEC has concealed for decades. The Establishment Left has always written checks to ALEC, which has kept ALEC on a short leash. ALEC is getting out of the law enforcement and social policy fields. It will return to its 'economic roots.' The Trayvon Martin case is the cause. Zimmerman was declared not guilty. But that does not matter at ALEC." Continue reading

Adam Kokesh’s Mail from Jail

"Adam is in a cage in solitary confinement, and he wants to reach out to his friends and fans in person. For the next few hours, he'll be able to interact with his fans through the mail, and he'd like to be able to thank his supporters personally and answer any questions they might have. While the government has desperately struggled to silence Adam, we shouldn't forget about the positivity that defines his approach. I would love for everyone to send him messages about how they woke up to the liberty movement, and how they plan to spread the message of Liberty in their own personal lives. Let's make sure that the Man can't get him down." Continue reading

Obama Co-Sponsored 2004 Bill Strengthening Self-Defense in Illinois

"President Barack Obama has questioned the wisdom of 'Stand Your Ground' laws, which in many states provide that a person using justified force in self-defense against an attacker has no duty to retreat before using that force. However, in 2004, then-State Senator Obama co-sponsored a bill that strengthened an Illinois law providing for the use of lethal force in self-defense, making the use of such force more likely. Though Obama had made gun control a signature issue early in his career in the state capitol representing the urban, liberal district of Hyde Park, the need to appeal to voters statewide may have prompted Obama's co-sponsorship of the self-defense legislation." Obama on Zimmerman verdict: Trayvon Martin ‘could have been me 35 years ago’

"'When Trayvon Martin was first shot,' Obama said during the daily White House press briefing on Friday, 'I said that this could’ve been my son. Another way of saying that is Trayvon Martin could’ve been me 35 years ago.' 'There are very few African-American men in this country who haven’t had the experience of being followed when they were shopping in a department store. That includes me. There are very few African-American men in this country who haven’t had the experience of walking across the street and hearing the locks click on the doors of cars. That happens to me, at least before I was a senator,' Obama continued." Continue reading
